hey all
I have a bunch of 8mm LP tapes that are of the kids when they were young ect so i need either a camcorder that will play them or a service or anything that will play these so i can get them off the camcorder and onto DVD. I have a Hi8 camcorder currently but becuase they are recorded in LP they seem to be playing at double speed.
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks

Well known problem.
Do you know the model and make of your camcorder that recorded the tapes?

Depends how many tapes you have , as to if a service would be easiest, certainly experience over the years tells me no one does a better job than the person whos footage it is if you are prepared to learn a bit. i am not good at computer capture so have always used a dvd recorder, Ebay UK has plenty of camcorders for sale you just need to make sure it can play LP tapes.PAL/NTSC problem solver.

Thanks for the help i brought a camcorder of ebay now i have anohter problem it seems that when i plug it into my computer via my easy cap on the right hand side there is a green veritical line for some strange reason however when i play it on the TV there is no line there but it looks like it is missing the area off that has the green line off so i dont know if its the easy cap itself because ive been having problems with the drivers ect or something else if it is the easy cap then i think im going to buy a dazzle from amazon and see how that works
Any help is appreiciated -
Which camcorder did you have that couldn't play LP speed tapes? Most, if not all semi-modern Sony HandyCams playback the slower speed including the D8s that support analog playback.

it was a canon cant remeber the model number but brought a sony handycam for £50 an that works fine bar the green line lol

Do you have an official EZCap device? If so make sure you have the correct drivers and select the correct standard when capturing(eg PAL).

its the old easycap before they went into administration it is the offical one it uses the stk1160 drivers but windows 7 doesnt recognise it as an image capture device however when i use it with AMcap it can use it but as i say it has a vertical green line on the right hand side about 3cm thick so i dont know if its the easycap or something else
EDIT: Also i should note i have hooked my ps3 up to the easycap aswell and it doesnt have the green line which is confusingLast edited by Robocop; 19th Dec 2012 at 12:50.

If the line is along the edge of the video it can be cropped/matted out. Its likely it is "hidden" in the overscan area anyway. Can you post a still from the capture showing the green line?

Ahh yeah thats sounds about right Here is the picture: http://i731.photobucket.com/albums/ww318/AMDG93/camcorder_zpsca5d97ed.jpg
Also i have found out that i only have the demo version of AMCap and because of that it only lets me record for so long so im going to have to buy a Dazzle to replace my easycap. Now my next question is will the green line appear on the Dazzle aswell and if it does and i burn that video onto a DVD without cropping the image will the green line show or not?
Also thank you everyone for your replies you have been of great help -

Have a read through this thread, if might give you a few ideas and help :

The person who wrote this script has a website that explains he has been perfecting 'his' method of transferring 8mm to DVD and has spent literally years, and hundreds of hours of time and money in trying to get the best method possible
He's managed to transfer some pretty poor sources to something that puts a lot of the alleged 'transfer services' that tend to be nothing much than a 8mm player on a projection screen and show them for what they really are, and use the reason of ' but its very old film and you have to expect it'
