since JEEB posted a commandline encoder and decoder (wrapper for the reference software, currently based on HM 9.1) over at doom9.
Personally I think it's a waste of time for normal users to use it at this stage of development, so I too only tested it on a short sample. (used ffmpeg to convert to yuv, created a cfg file and fed both to the encoder and it worked, but I really don't have the modivation to test more atm.)

(aside from the fact that it's slow like reference software normally is)
