  1. Are there any that would work with it? I've tried programs like Virtualdub etc. but they never work, as I thought they would . The software bundled with the RGCHDP is pretty bad, and all it does is take up all of your CPU power for absolutely no reason(causes distorted previews etc.). Are there any programs that would work with it? Programs that usually work with devices that have hardware encoders?

The device driver modules that control hardware encoding don't seem to be very standardized across capture devices. That means capture software has to be designed to use the encoding module for that particular device, which understandably limits your choices quite a bit.

You might be able to build a filter graph using GraphStudio or GraphEdit, and use it to capture, but that isn't always easy. Sometimes it takes a lot of trial and error to create a working graph.

Thanks, I tried graphedit but I could never get it to render the graph. Pretty annoying.

From the above, I take it that you have used GraphEdit to successfully build working filter graphs in the past, but are stumped by the Roxio Game Capture HD Pro. That is unfortunate as I am not able to offer you any advice on building filter graphs beyond the basics. I can't experiment with building graphs for the Roxio Game Capture HD Pro because I don't own one.

Have you also tried installing the service pack update for the Roxio software to see if that helps?

Yeah I've tried before with past capture cards and it works great, I'm probably missing some graphs because the RGCHDP has a lot of them. The service pack did nothing.

There are only two sorts of capture devices using hardware encoding that I know of which are supported by third party aps other than GraphEdit or GraphStudio, although the third party software choices are limited to a few PVR aps.

One category is TV tuner cards with an analog tuner and analog capture port. The other category is made up of a few older HD capture devices, the AverMedia HD DVR USB, the Hauppauge Colossus and the original Hauppauge HD PVR, which can masquerade as digital tuners with the right drivers or software plug-in installed.

I think your only 3rd party option for the Roxio device that you have at this point is to keep trying with GraphEdit or GraphStudio.

    Tip:

Install a virtual machine with XP and only install ROXIO HD drivers + DirectX.

After this, use graphstudio/edito to make your tests. Too easy.

    Any find, post here.
