  1. I have a xp netbook and I am looking for a recommendation for a cheap, usb capture device that has composite
(yellow RCA jack) video input. I would use this for basic video capture from my vcr, or from tv converter output.

  2. The EzCAP 116 ($31.95 USD) is the one I purchased, and it seems to work well for me. If you choose that one, make sure you only buy it from http://www.ezcap.tv/, who even offer a support forum exclusive to their customers. Avoid at all costs the widely available "EasyCAP" capture devices that sell for around 10 dollars or less, which are cheap counterfeits of a predecessor model to the EzCAP 116 and are often faulty.

These get good marks from a few members of Video Help who know something about video capture

The real EzCAP 116 gets fairly good reviews at Amazon and is a little less expensive.

I know that you will be tempted to buy an $8 piece of crap counterfeit EasyCap, but unless you look forward to struggling with it just to get a mediocre result, at best, you are better off with something else.

  4. Yea, I see a lot of these on ebay for $6 including shipping from China. I suppose it would be worth it only for people living in China because they could test the devices on their own computer before purchasing. I know in China, generally people test before they buy, because, after you've bought it, there are limited or no returns. Reading the user reviews on the $6 devices- the biggest problem seems to be getting the right driver- I have xp service pack 3, and some people had difficulties with service pack 3.
