  1. I have this file now that after 1 minute or so starts juddering at the slightest camera movement. I tried to play it on the pc with VLC and on my tv with WD Live (using USB flash) and it behaves exactly the same, which makes me think that there is something very wrong with it. Re-muxing it with MKVmerge or giving it to Meteorite din't improve it at all. Following are the specs according to Mediainfo, hoping someone could find the problem and maybe the way to solve it:

It looks you have posted this on afterdawn...

If you have tried remux it already I guess you must reconvert it. You can use handbrake or vidcoder. Maybe just convert a few minutes and see how it plays in VLC. Use similar encoding settings as the source.

  3. The specs look like normal 24 fps video. You'll have to provide a sample. But 24 fps is inherently jerky/flickery. You see it in movies all the time. See the clip in the following post:

  4. when you remux, make sure you disable the header removal,..
('Muxing mode : Header stripping' causes more harm then good)

  5. +1

I've just realised this and remuxed the files i made since downloading the latest mkvtoolnix. In fact, the header-stripped files would not play on my WDTV player at all.

But header stripped files should work in VLC and not cause juddering.

  7. Perhaps - it was just a caveat because i see the OP uses a wdtv

  8. Thanks to those who replied.

I reconverted it with handbrake, like Baldrick suggested, using the same container and the "normal" mode: it plays exactly the same. Shoud I maybe customize some settings?

I uploaded a sample of the original file here: http://d01.megashares.com/dl/O3w5G10/Sample.mkv

  9. The person that made it didn't know what he was doing and decimated it incorrectly. There are many many missing frames and many many duplicate frames. It's hopeless. Delete it from your hard drive.

EDIT: nevermind. I didn't bother to refresh this page since yesterday and missed the last few posts.

I can't download from that link anyway.

terencecarson; in future, upload samples directly to videohelp (unless they're huge).

I take your word for it manono, so as far as I'm concerned the discussion is closed. Thanks to everybody.

  12. I also looked at the file and saw the same thing as manono. Missing frames, duplicate frames. There is no practical fix.
