I understand that AVS4YOU has a bad reputation for quality but I was wondering if the MPEG2 encoding worked anywhere near as good as TMPGE? I already own AVS4YOU and was trying to save some money for a few AVI files that I need to encode to MPEG2. I already tried the "hey honey which one of these looks better test" on my TV and couldn't really see much of a difference. Does anyone have any experience with the AVS4YOU MPEG2 encoder?

Thanks Baldrick. I tried AVStoDVD and it seems to work really well. I can output to mpeg2 and then author with VideoReDo. Interestingly enough, I tried my AVS4YOU and it worked okay. However, there is not an option to not deinterlace so I think it deinterlaced automatically. I checked the mpeg2 file after converting with AVS4YOU with Gspot and it says progressive. Not sure if progressive is a big deal or not. I'm going to author to DVD and watch on TV. Original source file is home movie MiniDV cassette captured with firewire using WinDV.
