  1. Hey fellows,

I have the Pioneer DV-444-S(ilver) DVD Player. And it's a nice player indeed - and a very nice design. It plays all the VCD's I have made, perfectly. But my problem is, that it does not display the progressing time?? It would be nice to see if you were 10 or 20 minutes into the program. Is this right? Or do I have to make the VCD's in some special way to make that work?

I usually use TMPGEnc to make the .MPG files, and then NERO (5.5.7.2) to burn the VCD. Is there a better way? I mean, a more "right" way..?

Hope for some helpful answers. Thank you in advance, all you smart people.

instead of pressing play on your remote press the button 1 and you will get playtime.

Bachfire, can you please tell me what CDR's you are using for this DVD player? I bought the DV-444 and it messes up on all my Memorex CDRs that worked on my old Pioneer model. Thanks.

  5. Sure, but up till now I have only used 1 type of disc. That is a "Mr. PLATINUM" 80 min. CDRW disc.. That is the only type/brand of disc I have tried so far. Maybe I should try some ordinary CDR's..

That was not much help, I know.. Sorry..

    Thanks anyway bachfire.
Just so that you know, I have tried Memorex Professional discs and Sony discs. Both seem to have the same colour undercoating (Silvery-gold), and both start to mess up after about 45mins on a VCD encoded to the standard with Panasonic Encoder.
I have some older Maxell discs which are a blue undercoating and seem to work fine. I don't know whether the problem is with the discs or the mpg files, since they played OK on my older Pioneer machine.
There is no fault with the machine, as I tried the disc in the shop where I bought it and the same happened there too.

It's a right pain in the arse basically. Now that I've finally managed to get a quality of VCD / SVCD I'm happy with, I'm stuck with what CDRs to use!

I too have used Memorex CDs on my grandma's Pioneer DV-444, and they play no problem. Maybe you have a crappy batch of cd's?
