I want to try the Gunnar Thalin deinterlace - smooth v1.1 filter in Virtualdub. It indicates it creates video from material that has been split into separate fields. How do you split video into separate fields, preferably using Virtualdub?

    Thanks

  2. Use the "bob doubler" filter with the deinterlacing method set to "None - alternate fields". Then use the "interlace" filter with the source format set to "Alternating fields" to weave the fields back together when you are done.

  3. Use VirtualDub's built in Deinterlace filter with Discard Fields, and Double Frame Rate (TFF/BFF whichever is appropriate). Then use Gunnar Thalins Smooth Deinterlace filter. It's not a great deinterlacer.

BTW, loblolly364's bob doubler settings and my deinterlace settings do the same thing. You can also use SeparateFields() in AviSynth.
