would it be possible to recover the original framerate of my dvd footage? It was originally ntsc format from japan and then converted to PAL by an italian dvd company. Im working with anime. Could I possibly use srestore or is there a better option?

He's got another thread on the same subject. There's a sample there, too. Guess he wants a second opinion.

Unless this is a different DVD. Because the anime in the other thread is PAL to NTSC from what was originally Italian. As far as I know there's nothing at all Japanese about Winx Club, except for maybe the inspiration.

You should post the original DVD MPEG2 data, not a conversion to MKV. We don't know what exactly has been done during that conversion. But I saw many missing frames and many duplicate frames. If that's what the DVD video looks like you're pretty much screwed.

Fugeddaboutit. And it's 23.976fps, not 25fps. It's not fieldblended or even interlaced, and SRestore will be useless. 836x496 is a very peculiar resolution and almost certainly not the same aspect ratio as the source. Whoever made it, didn't know what he was doing

It's not fieldblended. Parts of it are interlaced but that's a result of the way they converted it to PAL. They added a frame every second to go from 24fps to 25fps, but as a field every half second. So, every other half second it's interlaced. This is most noticeable in the opening scroll up the bed. The only thing I'd do with it is 'IVTC' it back to 24fps:
TFM()
TDecimate(Mode=1,Cycle=25,CycleR=1)
I was wrong about the aspect ratio, but maybe they cut off the sides to make the black bars necessary (or maybe they chopped off the top and bottom if the source is really 1.33:1). Also, it seems to play jumpy. The Toei logo at the beginning has always been screwed up, but even the episode seems to be missing frames and plays a bit jumpy. I don't think it's the usual anime stutter from all the duplicate frames, but maybe I'm wrong.
This thing isn't available in NTSC? I'd bet it's better.Last edited by manono; 1st Dec 2012 at 22:40.
