  1. Hello,

I downloaded a .mule.td file using emule. It displays the following info using GSpot and MediaInfo. I would like to convert the file to a avi file. The file is currently in packed stream and does not play properly using any video file players. My understanding is have to unpack it first. I tried MPEG4 Modifier already, but it only accepts avi files and this file is in DX codec. Anyone has any ideas?

Your help and input is much appreciated!

    Best regards,

    Eric

Discussion about downloaded P2P files probably violates the forum rules.

The reports you posted show 'avi' so did you change the filename ?

Nothing to suggest why it should not play except...

It could be FAKE due to the source.

  3. Discussions of downloaded P2P files is fine unless you give some obvious indication it's copyrighted material.

Packed bitstream probably isn't your problem. No Windows player has a problem with packed bitstream. Most standalone players can handle it too.

According to GSpot your file is an AVI file (ODML). DX50 (Divx 5.0) is acceptable as the fourcc for Mpeg4Modifier. I suspect your video isn't really Divx and it's a honeypot to get you to download a player full of malware.

    Hi jagabo,

The file originally has a filename "owk.emule.td", I changed it to avi so it can be opened by MediaInfo. The two images are provided by opening the original file without modification (only filename).

Mpeg4Modifier would not open the file. The error msg says "This is not a valid MPEG-4 video (startcode not found at beginning of frame). Codec: DX50".

  5. It's obviously and AVI file (from the GSpot and MediaInfo reports) even if they didn't use .AVI as the extension. The purpose of the file is to get you to download their player.

Another possibility is it's an incomplete file: http://www.fileinfo.com/extension/td

Before I posted to this forum, I tried using Thunder to open the file as well, but no luck.

I tried DivFix ++ and it showed a lot of corrupted frames.

What does "packed bitstream" mean? I read this article: http://itsjustonesandzeros.blogspot.ca/2007/01/what-is-packed-bitstream.html

Does my file have anything to do with what he said?

Yes. But like I said, that's not your problem. Every software player in Windows can handle packed bitstream. Your file as corrupt, at the very least. I still suspect it's a honeypot.

  10. One last thing you can try: VLC can play many corrupt AVI files. At least partially.
