I see Wal-mart still has this player for $38. I looked at the box and among the logos on the box are "mkv playback" and "external HDD playback" and "usb 2". There is a usb port on the front of the player. There isn't any indication on the box about avi or divx. Judging from the above info, what kind of video files do you think it will play from the usb port?
And how is "external HDD playback" (I assume this is portable hard drive) different from usb memory stick? I would guess that a portable hard drive takes a lot of power, and maybe there are some other differences relating to formatting that makes a portable hard drive different from a usb memory stick.

My fault. I didn't realize there were new responses to my previous post. I think I'll buy that player and test it. Can always return it.
