Besides "Oppo.Com", are there any other domains from which they may push new firmware releases our way ? I recently picked up an Oppo BR player that is pre-Cinavia, and apparently pre a couple other unfortunate changes. Keeping in mind the way Samsung pulled the rug out from under us via unwanted feature changes in forced firmware updates, I intend to block any firmware updates to the Oppo. One (more drastic) way to do that would be just to not enable its networking functionality. A more tailored approach would be to router-blacklist wherever the firmware updates come in from. So, I'd like to hear from other Oppo owners who know about this.

When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form.

For what it's worth, Oppo values its customers and I really think that they would have to be legally compelled to force firmware updates on them. Your question sounds reasonable enough, but from a technical standpoint it may be impossible to answer. There is absolutely nothing to stop Oppo from buying any available domain and using it to send an update at 3 AM to your player. The number of domains they could theoretically choose is essentially infinite. I've never heard of them using another domain, but if you're that paranoid you may just need to keep it off the network as that is the only 100% foolproof way to prevent your nightmare scenario. Even though I think it would go contrary to everything Oppo does to act that way, I cannot personally offer you a 100% ironclad guarantee that they would never do what you suggest.
Do consider that Sony and Samsung are both completely under the spell of the Sith forces that rule Hollywood and both go further to screw over consumers than most of their competitors. I've bought 2 BluRay players made by smaller manufacturers and neither has ever forced a firmware update on me. -
No, the player has to contact the server, not the other way around. So the server name(s) or IP address(es) is fixed in the firmware. Blocking at your router is a viable option.
Unless you think Oppo tries to upload firmware to every possible IP address. Which wouldn't work if your behind a router (unless you stupidly fowarded the service port number to the Oppo).
