  1. Greetings,

I have 2 audio tracks in Sony Vegas. Track #1 is captured audio recorded through a video game. Track #2 is commentary. What I'm wondering is if there is a way I can have track #1 volume pan down automatically to a specific level while there is talking happening in track #2, and then when track #2 is silent the volume in track #1 adjusts back to the default level.

Is this possible, if so how would I set that up in Vegas?

    Thanks in advance.

Right click the track and turn on the volume envelope. Then left double click to create points.

What you see here is called a "duck". The playback sound will drop to whatever is on the track below. The shape is a visual representation of fade out, hold, fade up.

To select a preset, right click a point.

  3. I think he wants to do it "automatically"

In the audio world, it's called "ducking"

I don't think vegas can do it without 3rd party scripts or plugins, but you can search for "sony vegas and audio ducking"

  4. Thanks budwzr,

That's basically what I've been doing by hand... I was hoping there was some sort of way of Vegas being able do achieve this automatically, but I think Vegasaur will work. Thanks poisondeathray.

Some 3rd party compressor plugins (VST, DirX) include the ability to duck as long as they can take a different channel as their control signal.
