I have a Sony HVR-A1U HDV 1080i video camera that I'm trying to capture the content of the DVC cassette into iMovie on my iMac.
1) iMOVIE / iMac doesn't recognize the camera, or source.
2) I've tried (2) different brands of Firewire, still nothing.
3) I've even tried Adobe Premier (Trial verison), and nothing.
I'm no pro at this, and about to loose my flipping mind trying to figure all this out. I've seen where this camera, isn't supported by iMovie, or iMac, the MPEG format isn't recognizable in iMovie, etc. etc. etc.
The killer element to me is that the guy who owned this camera before me, used it flawlessly with a Mac, and an earlier version of iMovie.
Thoughts?
Appreciate the help.

It seems like you must use an older version....
Or maybe you can try something mpeg streamclip and export to mov.
