  1. OK, new problem for me -- in VirtualDub 1.9.11 AVI Capture, I have Enable Audio Playback checked but I'm hearing NO audio playthrough. I know audio is coming in because it shows on the volume meter, and Vdub is capturing and playing back audio fine because I hear it when I play back the captured files, just not while in capture mode. It would be very helpful if I can get it to work, for knowing when to start / stop, not only during PC capturing, but when using Vdub as my monitor when dubbing from VCR to DVD Recorder.

I'm on Win XP SP3, and my capture device is a Belkin USB VideoBus II, selected in Vdub as Device = USB VideoBus II Video (DirectShow), Audio = Capture Device.

    Any suggestions?

  3. You mean the Windows volume icon next to the clock in the taskbar? It brings up the volume control for the on-board sound device; the volume's up, and controls the volume of sound I hear when I play the video file in VDub; it's not set any differently in capture mode, there's just no sound.

  4. Right click on it and select Playback Devices. Un-mute any that are muted. Also check the properties of each Recording Devices.

  5. When I right-click it there are two options. The first is Open Volume Control, which opens the Windows mixer for the onboard sound card; no items are muted, and if I switch it to Recording Control, you can only select one item; currently Stereo Mix is selected because sometimes I use Audacity to record system sound. Again these are both settings for the on-board sound card; if I switch it to USB VideoBus II Audio, the OK is greyed out because the mixer doesn't apply. The second choice from right-clicking the speaker is Adjust Audio Properties, which gives the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties with 5 tabs - Volume, Sounds, Audio, Voice, Hardware. The Audio tab Sound playback Default device and Sound recording Default device are both set for the on-board sound card. I tried switching the Sound recording Default device to USB VideoBus II Audio but I still didn't get audio playthrough in VDub. Again, I think the Belkin device is setup correctly to record audio, but something is not allowing VDub to route it from the Belkin to the onboard sound card during capture.
