Hi. I'm capturing 1080i shows off an HD DVR via Blackmagic's Intensity Extreme. These files play fine on Quicktime as well as the latest VLC, but if I were to mirror my Mac's display onto an HDTV via a Thunderbolt to HDMI adaptor, will they be seen as 1080p instead of interlaced? Don't LCD TV's automatically deinterlace?
Note: VLC's deinterlace options do not work with these files.
Thanks

Am I missing something ?
You capture on a HD DVR. Cannot you connect that DVR direct to the tv ?
AFAIK a HDTV does not de-interlace.It is the player that does that. So the tv displays what it gets.
Have you tried mirroring the display as you describe ? -
All HDTVs (except those that are CRT based) deinterlace when given an interlaced signal. Regarding the mac-to-tv connection, you either have to set the mac to interlaced output (so the TV recognizes the video is interlaced) or force the player to deinterlace.
Did you force VLC to deinterlace? Don't just leave it at Automatic. What happens when you force it to Discard mode? You should see lots of jaggies but not an interlaced picture.Last edited by jagabo; 12th Nov 2012 at 19:49.
