VBV buffersize really that important...?

Hi all,

I 'm usin kwag 's template, a little changed, to convert divx to mpeg-1 vbr. The only setting I found to be stable in my player is with vbv=38. min: 300, max: 1250kbps.
Is it true that all players are picky about this template or is my Lenco DVD-02a just not up for it?
I must say I also tried the: Finlux DVD510, Philips 752 and Samsung M405 to play low-bitrate xVCD 's and only the Finlux could but sounded horrible!

Any insights are really appreciated.

Never mind. The "search for motion/ half pel" was the problem.
Apperently one needs a pretty powerfull (DVDplayers')processor to cope with that.
