  1. I would assume that converting DivX video of 720x576 resolution would produce better quality VCD then converting a DivX video of 640x480. I would like a second oppinion on this.

    I can detect practically no difference, seeing as both files have dimensions that you're going to knock down to VCD resolution. When it's all going to the same size, I can't visually tell a difference.

    *Upsizing* video, though---now *there's* where you can tell a quality difference.

  3. Take a great source (such as a DVD), then rip/divx encode a chapter at 720x576, then rip/encode the same chapter at 640x480, same settings (other than resolution).

    Convert one to VCD, and then the other. Compare the results. This way you will know how it looks to YOU, as opposed to how it looks to others.
