i have a 6x4x32 acer cd-rw. i have had it for about 2 years now. ever since i had it, it will only burn cd-r's at 4x. i have tried many different programs like ez cd creator and nothing works. i just bought the new nero 5.5 and tried to burn at 6x and it said that "the media doesn't support this speed." i have also tried many different media types like imation, pny, and memorex, all rated at different speeds. i am just guessing but would it be because that the speed on the cd-r's goes from 1x to 2x to 4x to 8x to 16x (i.e. it doubles) and therefore would skip over 6x?? i know i sound confusing but if anyone knows anything could u please help me???

maybe that could be it, i understand a CD-RW looks on the disk to see what speeds it supports.

If the disk is saying 1x, 2x, 4x, 8x, 16x, 24x, the drive might not let u write at 6x

no that wasn't the problem. i contacted acer and they said that my burner was one of the first ones shipped and therefore came with a firmware driver that didn't support 6x (i still dont know why they would make a 6x burner that doesnt support 6x). but anyway, i reinstalled the drivers and firmware and now it works fine
    thanks
