  1. I have a WD Live Plus the previous model to the latest one and run it off media server using windows 7, it has two failings, it does not play MKV over the network only from USB and it does not seem to update the library readily when new files are added, I tried Network shares and the streaming kept crapping out and I use an Ethernet not wireless, my router is a RT N16 Asus , any suggestions.

I do not need Netflix and all the other on line choices I just want to stream from my network storage, I suppose I could just attach two 2TB external drives to the wd live but that seems to have updating limitations.
I have tried the latest version of WD Live plus and it seems no better.

I also tried a Sony Blu ray with network , I just found it had too many choices I really do not want umpteen logos and choices when all I want is to stream from my network.

My latest attempt is a Apple TV and it does not seem to support playing divx through Itunes and I do not want to convert anything, just play Divx/xvid/mp4 and mkv.

Any suggestions on a straightforward solution, any opinions on popcorn hour or other choices out there

    thanks

  2. Why don't you just use Network Share on WDTV Live Plus, mkv no problem , subtitles are always working, and it is available to play right after you upload video to a network attached device, I don't use myself anything else.

4. I do not use wireless either. Not sure what crapping out means but I am not a network specialist anyway to troubleshoot it with you. I can say WDTV Live plus is working with all three OS I have (or had) XP, Vista, win7, I even use NAS or Hardisk connected to WDTV Live plus by USB as a quick sharing place, XP tends to be cumbersome over LAN with its sharing options. I have even couple of WDTV's over the same LAN. I am reading or mostly have read that some of users can have problems perhaps like you but I never had.
Older firewall Zone Alarm seemed to give me a problems to connect to WDTV ones so I replaced that with Comodo, now I tried Zone Alarm again v 10 or something and it is working again all right, because Comodo this time started to give me a problems with one XP PC. So firewall is one suggestion, try to disable it and you will know. Don't know, I don't have just router over LAN but even switch right next to router and it is working.

Another suggestion is , do not hesitate to factory reset WDTV if you have some problems, you will find it in menu.

I do not have latest fw, I stopped updating because since one point they only really started to mess up functionality for unit. I stuck with 1.06.xx or something.

  7. I made a mistake in my earlier post, I have currently 1.05.04 .... that version 1.06.16 that I looked into was an offer in the menu to be downloaded ...
