  1. Hello everybody

I have two partitions, C and D. C has around 50GB and D has around 250GB. Is it possible to transfer 50GB from D to C without reinstalling Windows 7 again?

    Cheers!

    Use the GParted live CD.
    http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

But you can also, for instance, tell Windows to put its "Pictures" folder on the D: drive, or whatever it is that is taking up a lot of space.

I have used the Windows 7 utility several times and never had a problem with it.

  7. W7 utility is fine with empty partitions, but it can't migrate data. Partition Master can migrate data while shrinking/expanding/moving partitions (unless W7 has been improved/updated since i last used it). Gparted also iirc.

That's my understanding of it. Are we wrong?

Dunno about Partition master, but PartitionMagic can do it for sure while preserving data (done it). If you use it on your OS drive, you may need to do a startup repair. AFAIK, PartitionMagic is just a variant of GParted.

    Not at all.
Partition Magic is a commercial Windows program now sold by Symantec, GParted is freeware that runs on Linux.

About what? To quote the OP he wanted to move 50gb from D:\ to C:\ which isn't possible with W7 disk management utility unless the partition space is unoccupied.

(Partition Magic is ancient, it doesn't even work with the latest versions of NTFS last time I looked, unless Symantec have updated it recently.)

All "Partition Tools" are descendant from RANISH PARTITION TOOL/PART.exe (old DOS app).

For ANY Disk Management, try HIREN BOOT CD. its have all necessary tools (Personal, Home, Server, enterprise...Windows 95, 98, Me, XP, 2003, 2008, Vista, 7, 8, Linux, Mac, unix, Dos...*.*)

  12. I'm sorry, I had a brain fart. I meant PartedMagic. Never used Partition Magic.

    This:

Booting into the Linux OS offers numerous commands to work on your hard drive, and includes more functions than we could list here. Users should definitely take the time to surf to the publisher's Web site to study the CD's major applications before getting started. Some instructions are included with this package, but testers recommend only experienced users tackle this OS and applications. Many of the functions are easy to use, but improperly set actions could result in damage to your file structure. As the publishers note, this version of Parted Magic uses VisParted and Parted, but version 2.2 includes the more popular Gparted, a robust tool with the capability to change drive partitions without losing data.
