  1. I have rendered HDV an m2t file using Vegas 8.0c to a Cineform avi and have a resizing AviSynth script that will not load in to VirtualDub. It comes up with an error message "couldn't locate decompressor for format".

    Can anyone tell me what might be going wrong and what I can do to resolve my problem?

  3. I have Vegas 8 which has the Cineform codec.

    The script is

    AviSource("G:\Folder\file.avi")
    SeparateFields()
    LanczosResize(720,288)
    Weave()

  4. AviSource() requires VFW codecs, not DirectShow codecs. Try DirectShowSource()? Vegas may have a private Cineform codec?

    It does. That means it won't talk to other apps. You need to DL the free Cineform Studio which includes a general VFW codec.

    Thanks Scott. I am going to reveal my semi-ignorance now but will downloading the codec from Cineform Studio allow me open the Cineform avi file I made with Vegas?

    Thank you jagabo

    If I replace with with DirectShowSource(), should I be able to open the Cineform avi I made with Vegas?

    I am re-rendering the file as I deleted the original one to test something else (The video is an hour long and I needed the space temporarily).

    In another program (one that uses VFW codecs)? Yes, it should.

    Scott

    edit: if I understand you correctly and you haven't yet DL'd the Free Studio Cineform HD (VFW) codec, the only app that you have Cineform compatibility with right now is Vegas. So you could open it up in Vegas again, but until you DL the aforementioned, you won't be able to use it in other VFW-compatible apps.

    Thank you again Scott. I have a new problem now. I cannot not 'Select Platform' on the download page.

    I can see all three options but the drop down tool is not working in Firefox or IE latest. If I submit it defaults to the first option (Mac) and I want the last option (PC). Unexpected but once I have solved this issue, I should be able to proceed so I thank you very much for your help.

  11. Thank you everyone. I installed Cineform Studio and imported the 50 GB HDV avi and resized it to SD. One minor problem, the SD avi is three times the size of the original file (150GB).

  13. Oh yeah, thanks again. I used the Cineform codec then discovered that Vegas could not open the video element of the newer Cineform codec file I made with VirtualDub but I renamed the cfhd.dll file and then Vegas decoded the file and so I have made the DVD I wanted to make.

    Thank you all again.
