Ok, I did everything in the guide, and what others recommended, and now I have a 93 min. film that is a size that should fit on a cd, but when I burned it in Nero, it shows that it's 73 min. I used the video cd option. What might I be doing wrong??

  2. Hello, I haven't tried your guide yet. But it looks very good, i have a couple of questions to ask and maybe you could help. I've recently done a lot of DivX movies, can you convert these to VCD's being that in the process of makeing DivX's, you force film to change the frame rate to 23.976. Isn't a VCD 25.00 for pal and 29.970 for NTSC. Can you change the frame rate in TNPGenc. And my main question is , if i rip a DVD and use your guide, after i'm done and playback the movie on my DVD player. Say the movie is 16X9 on the DVD, whene i play it on my player it will atomatically enhance it to letterbox. So what i'm asking will my VCD that i made useing your guide, have the info for my DVD player to enlarge the VCD to Letterbox or Full screen if aplicable.

  5. Hello,
OK perhaps I am missing a step here and I think this guide is a wonderful tool but the only thing I can't seem to figure out is what to do if you don't have a DVD reader on your machine. I have a single AVI file that I would like to be able to convert to a single VCD. Is there a way to take this single AVI file and encode it in TMPGENC so that it will burn onto a single VCD? I made the settings exactly as they were outlined here and shrunk the file down in the settings but when it goes to encode there is no output (the preview screen remains blank). Perhaps I just haven't been patient enough and may need to wait till the process is complete but I read that I should be able to preview the file first and when I do there is no data in the file it is supposedly creating. Any help would be greatly appreciated

  6. Learylike..

Hi there. Newbie here, first post, but I know the answer to this one

I'm doing my first full-length AVI movie - to - vcd right now. TMPEGENC has been chewing on it for 10 hours now, with 3 more to go, doing 2-pass VBR -- not bad considering I have a Celeron 366 doing the chewing.

Anywho, I'm guessing you're using 2-pass VBR? If this is the case, you won't see any actual video preview until the progress bar passes 50%. When it hits 50%, that means the first pass for the VBR encoding is done and now it's starting on the second pass, which is the actual rendering of the mpeg file. That's when you'll start seeing a preview.

    Hope this helps.

  7. Need some advice. I just rip a DVD with the guide. DVD2AVI did its thing (I checked Frameserve) after the rip. The problem is that I don't have a wav file. Any ideas what I did wrong?

    Thanks.

  8. I'm having some problems with this one when I try converting divx widescreen movies (e.g. Leon the Professional, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas). It always converts it to fullscreen and so the aspect ratio gets all screwed up. What do I have to change in the settings?

    Great guide

    Thanks for your help,

The progress bar should be moving and the remaining and ellapsed time should change as well as the numbers to the right of the progress bar. Takes up to 6 hours depending on the machine you use. I always use automatical turn-off option and have it done overnight.

If you don't know how to create a VD, then find someone who can create a VD for you.

  14. Hi can anyone help me? i just got to this forum, it seems great and very helpful. Well to make a story short i have been getting my movies from the line, from grokster and winmx and kazaa and so on. I have alot now and iam trying to burn them to vcd form to fit on my dvd player in my home. I just read the one iam posting in about burning a full movie on to ONE cdr which would be sooo great. I read though it all and when i get to the tmpgenc and it says to load both files, all of my movies are one file, they are either divx or dvd rips that people shareand i share with. Can any one help me get back on track on the page so i can load the movie in tmpgenc? My email is chrisrig@bellsouth.net, can any one help? thanks for reading

  17. Hi Newgen
Thanks much for your off-line advise and expertise. All your suggestions have worked. Sorry for cutting in here but this is a long thread and some great dialogue.

    1. I have noted that some of the thread talks of near DVD quality. I am still experiencing pixelation especially in darker, action scenes and I am following the guide. Would downloading the templates for TMPGEN work better? I use CladDVD > TMPGEN > Nero

    2. How do I download the templates and install into TMPGEN?

    3. Another thing I noted was that sound quality seemed to "ring" in some scenes. I have audio bitrate at 244 per the guide and 44 kHz and 200% volume. I improved sound quality on a test VCD by setting TPMGEN to audio at 48 kHz and forced Nero to override when burning but one of four players I used lowered the sound pitch (Panasonic LV70 portable player). Is there a fix to improve the sound quality? I noticed this even when I did two VCDs for Windtalkers at 1150 Video bitrate and 244 audio.

    Please respond also to maizitis@aol.com

    Thanks guys! Great thread!

  18. This guide is great - Thanks! I use your techniques to back-up my young daughter's DVDs - which she has a habit of scratching.
I have encountered some problems though - I don't know whether anyone else has experienced? The guide worked fine for cartoon(short) films e.g. Ice Age, Monsters Inc - but when I tried to back up my own long movies e.g. Good, Bad, Ugly the sound was messed up as if it was at double speed (like chipmonks). I think the problem is my DVD player though (LG DA-3520 hacked to play VCD thanks to vcdhelp.com) I think it will only play standard VideoCD with the standard video/audio bitrates e.g. 1150/224 kbps - so I may have to stretch some of my films over two CDs.
    Thanks again,

    HI
After being conned into buying software that totally bamboozled me I started to search the net and stumbled across your guide. The best move I ever made!!!My very first attempt at copying a dvd worked now I do not have to go out and buy a third monsters inc dvd as my 3 year od takes great pleasure in removing the disk and using it as a frisbee
Now I am telling all my mates about this site it is the best.
Being a relative beginner succeeding first time has made me more confident at trying more.
I have been sent a film which was downloaded from the net and it's properties say it is a video clip. audio format is mpeg layer 3.
is there any way that I can turn this into a watchable dvd for my stand alone dvd player. It plays fine on my comp.

  20. Yes, look here:

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/tmpgenc.htm

You got AVI (most likely DivX) so it would help if you install Nimo Codec Pack.

    Regards.

Followed the guide to the letter, but the output (viewed in Realplayer) is black with no sound but the counter moves, and doesnt play at all in mediaplayer (just shows first frame).

    Any suggestions?

  29. I followed your guide and will admit I am really a newbie at this. When I burned the cd, then put it in my dvd player, it came up showing files, but none that would play a movie. I am really confused.
