  1. Having audio sync problems, did rip from DVD ran as instructed in the guide, file size is ok, just the sound sync. Anyone have a fix? I have also used Kwag templates and they work great with problems, but i have a friend you has an oler Hitichi DVD that will not play the Kwag CD.

So, any idea why that's happening? Did I do something wrong in DVD2AVI? Also, would that make a difference in the bitrate calculator? I mean, It was 145 min....and I set it for 145 min....estimated file size was 700 mb...ended up over a gig..
I am kind of stumped. Sometimes when I can't fix a problem I just re-rip the movie. I don't know why the movie is longer then it says on the DVD. I only get skipping problems when I encode in mpeg 2 and that's only when I rewind and fast foward. Hopefully someone else knows how to fix this.

To stop a movie from becoming out of synch I use field order B it may not seem like a really important setting but for a while I just ran through the wizard and didn't change anything but the bitrate and everyone of my movies were out of synch. If you are using field order b already then try field order but test a small part first.

Another way audio can go out of synch is if the video starts before the audio track. To find out open up DVD2AVI and load the VOB files. If you see something like a warning screen at the beginning or something that normally doesn't appear when a movie first starts then cut it out. What I mean is that most DVD rips start the same you'll see a production company logo and their theme music and then the movie will start or you will just see the movie start. If there is something extra then the audio track might start playing at the first frame and knock the entire movie out of synch. Hoperfully either solution may help.

  4. OK many thanks I will try that...someone elese has said that maybe I use not use the FORCE FILM in the DVD2AVI setting, that I should change it to NONE and see if may that won't clear up the sync problem, I will try both your method and the other one and get back to let you know how they worked.

  5. If you set force film that will definately knock the movie out of synch. I saw that on one of the guides after I used that everything I ripped was out of sync. Use field order B and don't select force film in the future.

If your DVD is FILM, as most are, and you previewed your DVD with (F5) in DVD2AVI and it said 95% FILM or more, you HAVE to set "FORCED FILM" in DVD2AVI.

If the audio is out of sync there is another problem. I process every DVD with FORCED FILM on, and I never have a movie out of sync with standard templates or with my custom template.

Please read here for more info on IVTC and "FORCED FILM".

used this guide to put a 86min movie on 80min CDRW... worked great- NBD

so then i tried a 101 min movie... 2passVBR, max 1150 for vid.... the only difference i used was changing the setting in DVD2AVI to "forced film" and 112 k/bit for audio... and the results are *incredible* (on an 80min CDRW)

*one* disc VCD!!!! picture quality is outstanding- i am now completely sold on VCD for DVD backups(vs. my A103 DVD-R)

    thanks for the how to!!!

  10. I fallowed the guide and at 1000kb/s is going to use like 95% of the cd,,cool,,I am going to run Tmpgenc before I go to bed...
my question is,Can I take the audio file and open it with some subtitles software to create the subtitles, then add the file with subtitles to TMpge and get the mpeg ready before I burn with vcdEasy?
I wonder if I add subtiltes, the file size can change and get a big mess with the audio,????
    thanks.

What was the problem that you were having with TMPGEnc The program is very easy to install. If you did not install the vfapi plugin TMPGEnc the program might not work.

As for subtitles I am unexperienced with that because I have never put subtitles in a movie.

  12. This is indeed very promising.
I have a small problem though. Can someone tell me what should I do if I am starting with a mpg file instead of these vob ones. The mpgs I have are generally 730 MB or so and in order to put them on a 700mb cd, I used to cut them off(ouch ). I would love to compress them a bit so that I can fit them on a cd but somehow i am not sure where to start from in this TMPGEnc guide.
    can somebody help please?

  13. It sounds like the files are small enought to already fit on a CD. If they are already in VCD format then you can burn them with Nero or VCDEasy. The largest file size for a VCD is 800MB for an 80min CD and 740 for a 74min CD. Since yours are smaller than that then you won't need to compress them. If they have the res 352x240 for NTSC or 352x288 for PAL and they are in MPEG one then a more faster way to get them compliant is to go into TMPGEnc tools which is under the file menu. Click the Merge cut tab. Load you MPEG and browse to where you want to save it, name it, and then hit run. The file should still be small enough to fit on a CD. I use to use to use this method for stuff I captured. It's a lot quicker than encoding. If you files are over 800MB then use my encoding method. All you have to do is load the MPEG for video and sound instead of loading the D2V file and wav file like you would for a DVD rip.

  15. Here is the link to the program: http://www.tmpgenc.net/files/TMPGEnc-2.53.35.130.zip . I am assuming you dowloaded from here. I just downloaded from here and tested it. The file was a zip file and the size was 995KB after unzipping the program with winzip the size of TMPGEnc.exe was 2,229KB. I double clicked the program and it opened. I don't know if this helps any but I have never had any peoblems with downloading from TMPGEnc's main site.

So ya used 900 bitrate and it worked out fine =), i just finnished a third VCD burnout on Kiss Of The Dragon that fitted on an 700Mb cd but the video were abit screwed up. I got small squares flickering on the screen for some reason.
I have managed to burn regular NTCS VCD when splitting movies in half
and using the TMPgenks regular template though bit it would sure be more
enjoyable without chaning discs all the time hehe.

  19. Thanks Newgen. I did manage to put a 727 MB file on a vcd using Nero.
However the encoding from TM....is something I hav enot tried yet. Will certainly give it a try as Nero takes 8 hours to encode.
    Thanks again

  20. Just tired your method with Bones (92Min) my first attemp was to set the Bit based on BitCal which was approx 966, this is from a DVD, the resulting file was just over 940MB, tired it again, this time set the Bit rate to fit just under 80 min CD using TMPGEnc to do the cal for me, set it for about 95% of the CD, again the file came out abouut the same just over 940BM, so why so big? Setting Audiop on both at 128 . Am I missing something?

    Hi Bud:

Have you tried Bones with my template but at CQ=74 to see what file size you get?.

  22. Kwag,

Yes, and as always your template does a great job.....came out to be about 600MB or, just trying out some other things to see how they work, including this method..............about the only thing I had to do with yours on some DVD's was to set it for 352x240 and the size came great, sometimes if I increase the CQ to anything above say 70/72 it came out to big for one disk set at 352x480

  27. Is this guide for making XVCD? because not all standalone DVD players are XVCD compatible. or is it just some kind of special VCD?

If you have the original vob files from the movie then it would be better to frameserve those and use them in TMPGEnc
How come I cant do this. When I choose like a divx .avi file as both VIDEO and AUDIO I only get video and no audio. The only way I can get audio into the video is by using virtualdub and extracting the audio from the movie to a .wav file first like what the guide said to do on the covert divxtoavi section on this website.[/b]

If you are talking about ripping a DVD I mean install a DVD ripping program on your hard drive and copy the movie files from the DVD to your hard drive.

About the type of movies I am making the format is non-standad VCD not XVCD.

  30. hi
this is the first time i've tried copying a dvd. although its almost 2 hours long i didn't mind the small drop in quality, so i went ahead and created the mpg file with tmpgenc: 602 kb/s for a file size of 699MB.
now when i try to burn the vcd using the easy cd creator 5 wizard, it tells me i can't, because the video bitrate is being reported as 104857kb/s and the system clock reference as 1201! what does this mean? what's going on? someone please help me, i have chocolate for brains.
