  1. Ok.

I am about to throw my puter out the window . I dloaded 2.59 tmpgenc and was going to use the steps listed in this guide to burn 1 movie on vcd, and I got the 1.5 gig file instead.. Read the posts and dloaded 2.58(I think it is ,the site said it was) and tried again-BAM- still 1.5. I have read every post in this thread and everyone says 2.58 is the one, so what am I doing wrong?? I had another computer that had a version of tmpgenc on it that I got last year and it worked fine, the only reason I dloaded the 2.59 was because I wiped the other computer's drive. So I know I am doing the correct steps as this was the guide I used before. Someone please help!!!-Thanks

I want to make a video cd out of an avi file I downloaded. I would like to fit it onto one CD but the directions I have found in the forums don't help me enought to get it done. Can anyone tell me how to record a movie onto one CD. I used TMPGEnc to convert the AVI file to mpg but then I tried to re encode it to make it fit onto one disc but the re encoder doesn't work. I am using EZDVD combo. Any help would be appreciated.

  4. The guides are designed to make things as simple as possible for DVD backup. If its too complex for you now then read what people talk about in these forums for a while and you'll learn .

  6. Hello again!

Maybe g_shocker182 didn't read my message completely and notice that I said I READ all the messages in this thread.

What I was asking if anyone can point me to a version of tmpgenc that will not blow a 700 meg avi into a 1.5 gig file. Again I have followed every step listed in guide and please remember I have used this guide in the past year with very good success on my other computer. Just that now with whatever version I am using it gives me hellatious file sizes. If anyone can assist me in overcoming this I would be grateful!

  7. I just did Open range which is 3 cd's long and managed to squeeze it on 2 disc's with no problem. But now i have another movie which is 84 min long (2 discs) and i can't manage to squeeze it at all. The file reads as 829 mbs (est.) on disc it shows as 729 mbs (est.) I'm using nero and can't overburn the extra 729 even when i change the settings. Using the guide it shouldn't be too hard to compress a 84 min movie onto one disc considering i put a 3 disc on 2. Someone please help

  9. Uh yeah i am using the "right version of Tmpgenc" however like i mentioned it worked once for a 3 disc file to a 2 disc but now that i'm using a 2 disc file it won't compress to 1. i've even lowered the bitrate but it seems to go back to the original setting considering the file output is the same size. a 84 min file should be able to fit on a 700 mb cd with 80 min with np. so i'm trying to see what i'm doing wrong this time since the first file worked. here's the specs

    Svcd format file
used dvd2avi to extract video and sound file
    loaded into tmpgenc
    changed bitrate to 900
    audio 229
    used mpeg 1 (non standard)

anything i'm missing i used the guide to the "t" and even double checked even thou it worked once before

  13. This is guide is one of the best i have come across

i have been using this now for months and have never had a problem either with rips or with downloaded, the longest i have managed to fit on a 80min is just over 2hr 30mins and i must say you couldnt really tell the difference from it and the dvd. I used amigo dvd to rip and then TMPGEnc version 2.58.44.152 following the guide to the 'T'
All i can say is keep the guides coming and newbies like will be just fine

  14. is it necessary to do anything to an svcd prior to doing this guide? I do the following:

    1: insert svcd into dvd2avi
2: take the dvd2avi files and put into tmpgenc
3: put the settings that are already saved into the tmpgenc

do i have to convert the 2 files that are SVCD into VCD and then merge the 2 into 1 mpeg? Then try and squeeze the file to fit on 1 disc

  15. i usually just join svcd if in parts and run through TMPGEnc this always works for me

  16. 2hs 30mins on an 80 min CDr and I couldnt tell the difference that equates to a bitrate of about 550k about half the std, I reckon you must have a lowish quality threshold.

  19. yeah baby finally got the file to fit. It was an SVCD format and i converted each file seperatly using the settings. And when they were done i merged them and "Bam" 1 file at 685 mbs. The quality during fast motion isn't great but nonetheless an 84min file on 1 disc. Thanks everyone who assisted me in answers

  21. I've just fitted a movie that's 2hours, 10 minutes long on an 80min cd using this method and it is really excellent, about vhs quality i'd say. Anyone who does'nt have a DVD drive should try this, it really is very good, much better than you would imagine. The bitrate was about 600 in TMPGEnc so i was'nt expecting much from the final result. WRONNNG!!, it's incredible. I've just bought a DVD drive and i'm beginning to wish i'd saved my money and just done this instead. Wish i'd found out about it earlier than i did.
Thank's newgen for the best guide there is on this site

  23. Hello, any advise would be appreciated, I followed this method to fit a film of 2hr 6mins onto a 80 min CDR, no problems with the conversion or burning (via Nero) but when the VCD is played on my DVD player (Sony DFP-F21) it only plays the first part of the film (approximately 74mins). I've tested the disc on my PC & it plays in full. I've not tried any further films as yet, the video Bit Rate was reduced to 600 K/bits/sec.

    Cheers.

  24. Great guide!! One of the most useful ones I've seen!! By the way, is there any way to do something similar with files already in standard VCD or SVCD format? I tried introducing the MPG file as video source on TMPGEnc and I get a 800 Mb. file, but when I tried to burn it with Nero I got a message saying that the file would be reconverted to standard VCD, so it changed back to its original size and couldn't fit it in a single disc.
    Any tricks to solve this?
Thanks a lot to everyone in advance!

What a great guide!! I was thinking I couldn't get good looking movies without a DVD burner, but I was wrong.

I did some tests comparing VBR with CBR...I couldn't tell that much difference and the time VBR takes to encode is sooooo loooonnnnggg.

So I made a One Disk VCD template using CBR and it works so well. I've done three movies so far and they all look better than I thought possible.

This guide not only taught me to make a one-disk VCD, but it taught me to make a template, too. Thanks for writing it.

Ooops, almost forgot my DVD player: Philips 724

  28. this guide what just what i needed. but when i play the movie for my TV, i notice that the bottom half of the subtitles are cut off. it's like the aspect ratio is off (movie is squished on the sides and the people in the movie are thinned out). i notice in the Project Wizard (2/5) screenshot the "Aspect ratio" is set to "4:3 525 line (NTSC, 704x480)". in my TMPGEnc, i had left it at the default setting 1:1 (VGA). i'm wondering if adjusting it to that 4:3 setting will solve my problem and allow me to see the subs completely? thanks.

Follow the guide as you would normally do, however make sure that when you are at the very end CHOOSING Bitrate Setting page under wizard. This is the page where you have to choose:

Average video bitrate, Audio bitrate, Estimated file size, and what type of media 74min or 80min and % disk capacity.

THE KEY IS : Click on the EXPERT button make sure all your settings match this:

    Under Video Tab:

    Stream type: MPEG-1 Video
Size: 352x240 *make sure this is 352x240
Aspect ratio: 4:3 525 line (NTSC)
    Frame rate: 29.97 fps
    Rate control mode: Constant (CBR)
Bitrate: Around 700 to 1000 "you can change it later at the end"
    VBV buffer size: 40
    Motion search precision: Normal

    Under Advance Tab:

    Video source type: Interlace
Field order: Bottom field (field B)
Source aspect ratio: 4:3 525 line (NTCS, 704x480)
    Video arrange method: Full screen
ok i've done a bit of searching and saw this that could help me with my aspect ratio problem, but i'm still confused about one thing. tomtheman says to choose "Full screen" for the Video arrange method while i've also read others saying to be sure to set it to Full screen (keep aspect ratio) so the video won't be shrunk or stretched. what is the diff between these 2 settings? and do most of you have the same same settings as above or dya have any tweaks that you can share? i also would like some clarification on the the difference between the aspect ratio settings for the Video and Advanced tabs. thanks alot.
