  3. This is a very informative piece and I learned a lot......Is there a similar form on this site that would "walk" me through the process of converting my old VHS tapes to DVD? I have no problem getting my unedited tapes to harddrive but a 98 min. tape is too large for one DVD disk........I know it will fit but nowhere can I find a solution to converting a lesser quality tape so it will fit. I am using a Sony 500 ax and MyDVD software......I have a large harddrive on a new Compaq with passthrough on a Canon 65 mc......

    Thanks for any direction/ help.

  4. I finally got this and have 3 movies backed up now. I am able to play the vcd's on my standalone dvd player and thats awesome! By the way, my standalone is an RCA model # RC524OP.

I am having a problem backing up Red Dragon. Everything goes well with ripping and frameserving. I get the two files I need for tmpgenc, but I did a test of a small part of the movie, and when its played, you can hear the actors talking in the background and a person talking about the movie. The video part is good. I used English ac3 2h. I played the dvd to see if thats how it played and it doesn't. It plays normally without the extra talker. What is this and how do I get rid of it?

I am having a little problem with TMPGEnc v 2.5.
When I make my video profile and I name it and try to save it in the Wizard directory, there is no wizard directory.
If I just put it in the Template directory with all the other templates my saved Template does not appear.
I am using the shareware version of TMPGEnc.
    Thanks Brad

I have TMPGEnc Plus 2.58 and no wizard folder. I put all my templates into the template folder and they end up under the heading "Other" when I open the wizard.

  8. This article is great. Burned Almost Famous (123 minutes) on a VCD. Slightly bad quality and the picture is stretched so they all look anorexic, but still very convinient.

IMHO, 123 minutes is a bit much for 1 disk.

Be sure to select Full Screen (keep aspect ratio) under video arrange method, that way the video won't be shrunk or stretched.

  10. Great thanks to site. Got my Bond (Die Another onto one CD).
Used Cladvd.net ver 3.3 & TMPGenc Plus 2.5. However in TMPGenc when I tried to use 2 -Pass VBR it would complete the first pass 50% then it would fail with a floating point error. Any idea's. When I changed to CBR it worked fine.

    plays on my Alba103 & Mico DVDA980s.

I found a m2v.vfp plugin do I put this into TMPgenc directory and then select via VFAPI plugin.

Almost forgot main reason on my Bond movie I selected main Audio track but when they used subtitles in the film this was not on my copy how do I find this and add for next time

You can NOT use tmpgenc 2.59 with this guide. It has a bug, so the resulting vcd keeps getting the same (too big) size.

Damns, it took me some time to find that out !

  12. Here is a question.

Lowering the bitrate decreases the quality of your data.

But what happens if I have a file downloaded with a bitrate of 1150 and I increase it to say, 1500?

I know that the quality of the picture will stay the same and that the amount of space used will increase, but do I gain anything in say, eliminating jerkiness or anything?

    Cheers

This is a guess but.. No. It will not help. Rule of thumb is: crap in, crap out.

BUT, regarding "jerkiness". I (accidentally) used the "Normal" setting in tmpgenc, for "Motion search precision" and it was very jerky. Here is my definition of jerkiness: When a man was walking down the street, the camera followed him, then the image "froze" for a split-second, and then it resumed action again, but the man was a little further down the street, and we didn't know how he got there.

I re-encoded, this time with the setting I usually use "Highest quality( very slow)" and the man walked smoothly down the street.

I encoded from avi to vcd.

look if anyone is having trouble with choppy audio its nothing wrong all you have to do is make 2 samples i would rather do an MPEG2 than MPEG1 ok and do this try to do this either 29.97 and 23.97(29.97 fps internally) burn them on cd rws and test them believe me this will solve your audio problem.

    352x480
    Avg. 120 minutes
    per CD.

its like CVD but its KWAG style all i change on this template is i use 48000 khz for audio and i use motion estimate search presison cause it looks good anyways.

  17. If in wrong forum please point the way. Anyway by following the various guides I getting the hang of most problems, execept this one. Where are how and with what program can I copy/rip my dvd's which have subtitle text within the main program. I'am not talking about subtitles which you switch on or off. (example alien speaking in Star Wars, Or the subtext used in The Mummy) I'am able to use Claddvd.net, DVD Decrypter, TmpGenc.
From which a get perfect moives and soundtrack but the formentioned text is missing

  19. Sorry if i'am not explaining myself . If you take The Mummy dvd in the begining sequence they speak ancient egpytion which is shown in english via subtitles but the rest of the film goes on as normal with the subtitle coming on for the ancient egytion. Now when I rip this movie and the ac3 sound track and play the movie back this is missing. what i'am I doing wrong. I know it must be simple but i'am missing the point.
