    Greetings All,

Just a quick request to seek out a hack for the following Blu-Ray player...

    Samsung Smart Blu-Ray 3-D Player - Model BD-D5800

Not sure if such a hack is available... as I have scoured everywhere that I can think of for a hack but, to no avail...

Any help that can be given will be greatly appreciated...

    Cheers and Beers,

  2. Hi VoYD666 I have unlocked three different Samsung models here in Australia using the same remote control hack as is posted on this site for the Samsung BD-D5500. I have just unlocked a Samsung BD-E5900 using the same hack and have also unlocked a BD-D5500 and a BD-D6100 using the same hack. All three models came with a remote with a "Repeat" button so it was just a matter of getting some smooth timing. I have updated all three models with the latest firmware before applying the hack and haven't found any firmware update that has stopped it unlocking. The BD-E5900 was done today so absolutely the latets firmware and no problems at all.

We've NEVER had a report of a 3D BluRay player made by any manufacturer that could be unlocked. NEVER.

Samsung and Sony models usually CANNOT BE UNLOCKED - ever. Not even non-3D players. outoftheknow2 lives in Australia where the situation is completely different. We've been told that Australian Sony and Samsung players can sometimes be unlocked, but that only applies to models sold there and not models sold in other countries. He didn't mention your model by the way, so you cannot assume that any of those hacks he listed will work on your player. The reason you can't find a hack is because one does not exist for your player. Sorry, but you need to understand the reality of the situation.

In the future if you want region free, do NOT buy Sony or Samsung. And don't buy 3D. By the way, even if by some miracle you found a hack that worked, you need to know that 99% of the time BluRay player hacks only unlock region free DVD playback.

    Cheers to outoftheknow2 and jman98...

I will test this out when the time permits... I should have been a tad clearer when I posted this request...

I know that the zones cannot be altered or hacked for Blu-Ray... I was after mainly a hack to unlock the region lock for DVDs... since the bulk of my discs were bought in Australia before my relocation to Iceland...

Again, I should have been clearer when posting my request... (was quite late when I posted...)

Cheers again to you all... will keep you updated with the success or failure...

    VoYD

Even if you bought the player in Australia (you are unclear about that part), we still have never had a report of a 3D player that can be unlocked.

Philips still makes cheap DVD players that can easily be made region free, but check our DVD players list for any specific models BEFORE you buy anything to make sure that any specific players can be unlocked.

  6. Cheers jman98. I was quite clear I am in Austraia and have unlocked the DVD regions on three Samsung models - 2 3D and 1 2D, using the same hack as is posted all over the place here. It is also reported as working on Home Theatre models as well as a number of C and D series model BD players. I am not convinced it does not work in Europe as there are some reports it has done so. I and OP are aware Blu-Ray regions are fairly unbreakable although again there are some posts suggesting it can be done under certian circumastances. It can definitely be done with the disks themselves on a computer with BD burner and software wizardry to produce a region-free disc and as is pointed out in many threads the vast majority of BDs are region free anyway.
The timing on the Samsung hack is everything and the Repeat button seems to be a distinct advantage. In Australia despite the suggestions we enjoy a free unlocking service for our DVD players it is not strictly true for Joe Public - the hacks here worked for me without contacting Samsung and I have always applied all firmware updates before applying the hack. No doubt Samsung can have a different policy around the world for firmware to allow or disallow the hacks but there is some evidence that people in Europe are managing to get Samsung players region-free. Remotes with the Repeat button are surely not a big deal in the modern internet based market if they are discontinued in a region in the box with the player.
Maybe in Australia we are "special" but with no colour sytem issues between region 2 and 4 (on the whole) it seems unlocking the region on a Samsung player will alllow these two regions to play. All three of mine took a number of efforts between 6 and 15 to get it right. Slightly wrong and I would be posting the rather common "it didn't work for me".
For Samsung there is no evidence I believe of a player being "bricked" by trying so there is no harm in people perservering as far as I can see, It's all "buyer beware" and "at owner's risk" anyway and all posts such as mine declaring success are obvioulsy no guarantee it will work for others as you point out.
I have not spent any extra on gizmos but presumably somebody may have to take a risk on a remote with a Repeat key bought from afar. If they want region free that badly it is not a huge amount of money - it is knowing when to give-up!
At the end of the day the players I am playing with are less than AU$200 each and the web has many DVD players on offer that are region free for DVDs out of the box I reckon.
I didn't mention the OPs model because I haven't tried it - I think the OP knows that and I wasn't trying to be devious in any way just pointing out if you look at many Samsung models in many hacks there is some success with a single hack with some reported regional variations. Give it a go I say - if there are dire consequences they are few and far between. I suppose somebody may mange to change to a useless region like 1 with a European colour system player and then not hit the magic button speed ever again but that is the risk they took when starting.
I will shortly take delivery of a fourth Samsung the HT-E5500W home theatre 3D player. I'll give the "standard" hack a go and reprort back.

I would say it is much easier to RIP/Decrypt & ReBurn to a Region-Free Disc (whether DVD or BD).

  8. Agree 100% that there are easy ways to make region free copies of DVDs and BDs and this way your investment doesn't get scratched as well. As long as you are making yourself one usable copy of everything in your library and no public sales/performances this seesm like good library management to me. Check weith your friendly National lawmakers though!

Anyhow I have now installed the Samsung HT-E5550W home theatre system and have performed exactly the same hack on this as for all my other Samsung BD/DVD players. Must be getting good at timing as worked first time. Yes it is an Australian model but as usual all updated to the latest firmware at initial seetings. Tried a region 2 (UK) DVD disc before and after the hack was applied and working great once region free was set. Just to confirm once and for all this has nothing to do with BDs as for this the region remains locked (as always as pointed out in several threads)..

Just to clarify as well for my 2D Samsung the remote AK59-00133A even in Australia for this model does not come with a Repeat button. I could use my BD-D5500 remote that does though and the hack worked fine. Unless Samsung really are using firmware to block the hack in all but a few countries it seems that to get a remote with the Repeat button simply needs a search engine and maybe the world's most popular selling site(s).

How's the OP getting on in Iceland? Any luck with the "standard" hack? If you have no repeat button on the remote (still there on my latest) that seems to be the biggest hurdle but some have reported it working with other buttons or see is you can find a suitable remote on the internet. As jman98 cautions though be smart when buying this way and don't sink a fortune into it. Get a BD/DVD burner for your computer and some decent burning software and you won't care about the Electronic giants making a point.
