instead of dvdremake...use Vobblanker to strip the audio and subs and see if that works with dvdrebuilder....Vobblanker sometimes sees unreferenced cells also but will just skip over them. Run the files through PGCedit and see if it comes up with error/fix it windows for that unreferenced cells...apply them and run it through DVDRB also

these are ways i would try

I've seen the free version behave strangely in not shrinking files enough when you remove an audio track. I know you're not going to like this, but if you re-run it without removing any audio tracks, you will most likely find it shrinks the file correctly. 993 MB is insanely low. It must look like garbage. I suppose since you bought it you can complain to the author and see if he can help, but in the meantime try my suggestion to re-run it without removing any audio tracks. Note that it does not always behave strangely when you remove an audio track, so I don't know why sometimes this causes problems and sometimes it does not.

Removing the audio with Vobblanker will certainly work correctly, but it the resulting DVD will still be too large for a single layer DVD disc, which is the whole reason to use DVD Rebuilder. If it's going to be too large for a single layer DVD, then there is no point in removing it. If the OP was willing to burn a dual layer disc I'm sure he would have done so.

Just rip to hard drive with AnyDvd or DVDFab then shrink with DvdShrink or CloneDVD.

Again, well meaning advice that will work, but if he's using DVD Rebuilder then I think it's fair to assume that he's interested in higher quality output than DVD Shrink or CloneDVD can produce.

Unfortunately this is a known issue with DVD Rebuilder and I've suggested the only solution I know that can solve it, unless the OP has luck getting the author interested in the problem. I respect the author's work, but I refuse to buy DVD Rebuilder Pro or donate money to him for BD-RB because he hasn't always been interested in fixing problems with his programs and his sycophantic followers on Doom9 really annoy the living crap out of me.

Since you are doing a movie only backup, you could demux the audio, video and subtitles using PGCDemux. Take the video stream and the one audio stream that you want (and subtitle also if needed) and use as input into AVStoDVD. Have it re-encode the video using HCenc, leave the subtitles and audio untouched. Make sure to set AVStoDVD to make a DVD-5 and correct type of dvd for your area (PAL or NTSC).

AVStoDVD will find the video stream easily, but you will have to right click on this video stream once you have imported it to AVStoDVD in order to find the audio stream and subtitles.

This will produce the same type of quality as DVDRebuilder as it uses the same encoder, though it may be a newer version of HCenc if you are using the standard setup in the free version of DVDRebuilder.

So there is more than one way to approach this.

Looks like AVStoDVD will accept dvd video directly too, if you use the IFO file as input. It will need to index the movie, to import, but you should be able to deselect the audio you don't want.

I prefer to demux with PGCDemux when importing dvd video to AVStoDVD. And I rarely, rarely have problems working with AVStoDVD, so I have no idea how you're getting it to screw up. Its main weakness in my experience is working with DTS audio.
