Hi, I'm trying to convert my Seven Samurai DVD to VCD. It's in Japanese and I'd like it to have the English subtitles. Is it possible to do this? I want the subtitles to be permanent, so I don't imagine it'll be a problem, but I'm new at this, so help please!
Thanks!
Brandon

2 methods i use are:
vobsub/vdub
and
flask/avisynth
i'm sure other ppl will elaborate -
Thanks for the reply!
Ok, I've downloaded VobSub and Virtual Dub, so I should be ready to go. Here's a follow-up question:
Do I need to change how I rip the DVD? I use SmartRipper as per Sefy's guide on here. Will it automatically pull out the subtitles for me, or is that what VobSub does (i.e. I would have to separately rip the subtitles)?
I think I may have answered my question while typing this reply, but feedback would be great.
Cheers!

I tried following that link and all I got was a screen full of gibberish.
I appreciate the help, though!
I think I might have it figured out. I just need to know what to do after I use DVD2AVI and before I use TMPEnc. I think I'll try Virtual Dub/VobSub, but I could sure use some help with how to load it into Virtual Dub, what to do, etc. An email would be great!
I'm trying to finish this project over the weekend so please help me out!
I appreciate all your help.

1) rip the vobs with the .ifo file (set that in options)
2) make .d2v and .wav file as usual with dvd2avi
3) use vfapi codec to make a (pusedo) .avi file from the .d2v file.
4) load the .avi file into virtul dub
5) open up vob sub under the video filters
6) the vob sub should be able to extract the subs for you.
7) you can now frameserve from virtual dub to tmpgenc w/ subs -
Thanks all, especially Poopyhead (nice name, BTW).
I was able to get it to work. If anyone else has a similar problem, and I'm sure it must come up now and then, here's some links that people passed on to me. I hope they help!
