I have some .MOV files and .MP4 files that I want to playback from the USB port connected to my hardrive on my blue-ray player. My Blue-Ray is also connected to my Yamaha Receiver: http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/av-receivers-amps/rx/rx-v2700_black__u/?mode=model
When I use .MP4 files I noticed that the audio doesn't playback in Bitsteam mode, but plays back in LPCM mode. Is this normal? Blue-Ray and DVD Audio plays fine in Bitstream mode.

When I use .MOV files from my camera (Canon 5D MarkII/III) it doesn't play back the audio at all. I get an error message saying Audio not supported.

I'm using handbrake, and was wondering how do I fix the audio for these formats to where it will play in both LPCM or Bitstream mode?
Also I was told the following by Oppo Support: It is likely that your receiver can't decode the audio container in this MP4 file, while the player can. This is very common with some AAC formats as many receivers can support stock AAC sampling rates, but off rate files will produce no audio or corrupted audio.
The player will not playback the audio AAC LC that is commonly used for cameras ans cellphones. So you will not get any audio from these sources. You will need to convert the audio to another format such as MP3.
Any ideas how I can solve my issue?
Thanks!

I can promise you that no other manufacturer's support desk would have gone to the trouble that Oppo did and given you the kind of detailed answer they gave you. You'd be lucky if they even told you something like "Our player doesn't support some camera audio formats".
I'm curious as to why this amazingly helpful and very detailed reply from Oppo is insufficient for you.
I hate AAC audio. In my opinion the format foolishly allows for some really crazy things it never should have, like variable frame rate, and it can make playback very difficult on some devices. Since you're making your own files here, I want to point out that there is no advantage of any kind to producing AAC audio output in Handbrake and you'd be much better off to produce AC3 output, especially if your source movies have AC3 audio (you can use it unchanged). I don't know why this idea persists that AC3 is crap because it isn't or that AAC is perfect because it isn't. MP4 hasn't required AAC audio for a few years now. I don't know if Handbrake contains anything that can produce or deal with AC3 audio, but if not, maybe it's time to use another tool. If you're not a Mac user, Xvid4PSP is really a fantastic program under Windows and it can generate MP4 files and it should be able to give you AC3 audio with no problems.
If you're doing all this stuff under a Mac then you need to tell us as you're painted into a corner and Handbrake is just about your only option. But again, I fail to see why the great answer Oppo gave you is not enough for you. Do you not understand that LPCM is lossless? Now if you want to complain that your files are being changed from 5.1 AAC to 2.0 LPCM that is one thing, but LPCM is not some kind of inferior audio codec. In other words, if you're not losing channels (ie. going from 5.1 to 2) you aren't losing anything by having LPCM audio instead of it being bitstreamed. -
I had no problem with the answer I received from OPPO. There support is one of the main reasons why I only purchase OPPO players. I just wanted to know what format I needed to use in order to play my custom video files on my home system in bitstream or PCM, and on others system when I goto different sites or locations. I use Cinema Craft Encoder, Sony Vegas Pro 11, Virtual Dub, Handbrake etc...
This issue is now resolved!
Once I changed out my Optical/Coax cable to HDMI, and took advantage of the dual HDMI ports (1 Audio, 1 Video) on my OPPO player, my music and video files play in either format.
Thanks for the feed back! -
Were you using HDMI for video and trying to use optical for audio at the same time? That would have been good to know. My limited experience is that this is a bad idea and if you use HDMI for video, you need to use HDMI for audio. The only device I've got that actually can correctly use HDMI for video and optical for audio is my first generation WD media player. Maybe others have had the exact opposite experience, but when I've tried to use HDMI for video and optical for audio on other devices, I've had a lot of problems.

Yes I was. I didn't realize I needed to upgrade, until I wanted to hang my TV on the wall this week, and once I started running wires threw the wall, I didn't want to use old cables, and then have to take the set back down to replace cables. So this is when I went back to see, the benefits of HDMI audio vs. COAX audio, and I was like okay, its TIME to upgrade!
Thanks!
