I have a dvd image that someone sent me that was recorded on some sort of dvr. The image was a .bin image, which I've found impossible to actually deal with, can't mount it as an image, can't convert it, because no software seems to do that. So, I had to burn it to a disc.

Once I did that, I tried to use VOB2MPG to rip it, but even though the disc is playable, and all the content is clearly there, the program won't proceed with the rip.

    Version: VOB2MPG
    Build: 3.2.2000

    Type: System.NullReferenceException

    Source: VOB2MPG

Message: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

    InnerException:

    at VOB2MPG_PRO.xfed3de3bc2a8e64d.bOpen_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e)
    at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e)
    at DevComponents.DotNetBar.ButtonX.OnClick(EventArgs e)
    at DevComponents.DotNetBar.ButtonX.OnMouseUp(MouseEve ntArgs e)
    at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WmMouseUp(Message& m, MouseButtons button, Int32 clicks)
    at System.Windows.Forms.Control.WndProc(Message& m)
    at DevComponents.DotNetBar.PopupItemControl.WndProc(M essage& m)
    at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.O nMessage(Message& m)
    at System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlNativeWindow.W ndProc(Message& m)
at System.Windows.Forms.NativeWindow.Callback(IntPtr hWnd, Int32 msg, IntPtr wparam, IntPtr lparam)

This is all so frustrating, because I know the data is there, this program is just getting all in a fit over some technical issue that doesn't matter since all the video is there, and that's all I want.

In the past I was able to change the extension of the .vob files to .mpg and just grab them that way, but then when I was using them, I couldn't ever seemlessly join the files back up, there was always like frames missing or timing off between the two. Not sure why when I have the exact data on the disc, it isn't all there and won't line up in a video editing software.

How can I get this ripped into one file that has this whole program, no gaps, no missing stuff, no out of sync......just get one darn file off of here that is the entire contents of what plays off the disc?

If you have no matching .cue file with it....try renaming the .bin to .iso and see if that helps.

I have a .cue. But the only thing I can do is burn a disc, I can't get directly from .bin to anything else. And now when I try to rip using the vob2mpg program from the disc I burned, I get the above error.

I did also try renaming the .bin to .iso, and that does allow me to mount the image....however, I still get a vob2mpg error

What do I need to do to get one seamless .mpg out of this?

Well....actually....kinda. If I browse out to the video_ts folder, I can play the .vob files no problem. If I try to play the disc....no go. But, I then have 4 split up .vob files, which I can't seem to rejoin seamlessly. Why don't they join up seamlessly when extracting that way, when they're designed to play seamlessly? Who came up with these crappy formats that make it damn near impossible to do simple stuff?

The someone authored the disc incorrectly.....shitty authoring software most likely.

It has nothing to do with "crappy formats". Every correctly authored DVD on the planet needs to have VOB files and their matching files containing information of how and when to play the VOB files:
    https://www.videohelp.com/dvd#struct

Having said that...while the disc is mounted....try to open it with DVDDecrypter. If you can....post back.

My gripe with the dvd format is that, even when I extract the raw data, it doesn't easily go back together again.

dvd decrypter gives me an error

    On-the-fly IFO/BUP file patching failed!

    File Name: VTS_01_0.IFO
    Size: 137,216 bytes

    Reason: Invalid IFO/BUP file.

But, the video is there....something should be able to just rip the damn video that is right there in plain sight off of the image. Doesn't anyone make software that works?

Again....that has ZERO to do with this "dvd format" you speak of. Billions of properly authored DVDs have been ripped back to their original MPEG2 format without incident ,and billions more badly authored (usually at the hands of DVD Recorders) have not.

If DVDDecrypter chokes on the image....you are pretty much screwed. The best way I would continue would be to copy the VIDEO_TS folder to my hard drive and try other editing-type softwares to open the VOB files. Software like AviDemux...hoping it will recognize the sequence of VOBs from that badly authored disc and join them correctly.
OR....try running the folder through FixVTS - it was designed to fix badly authored discs.

  11. Try the CMD (if you use windows)

    copy /b VTS_01_01.VOB+VTS_01_02.VOB+VTS_01_03.VOB+VTS_01_0 4.VOB C:\all.mpg
