    I am currently encoding a 1080p movie... source is 34 Mbps

    Re-encoding parameters, 1920x1080

    CRF 16

    Ref frames=5 B frames=6
    8x8 transform, CABAC, weighted p frames
    B pyramid, b frames optimal, Trellis always
    uneven multi hexagon, motion est range 64, Subme=10
    Partitions=all, deblocking = 6, deblocking = 6

    U notice my deblocking is 6:6, I chose that because I was aware it improved compression significantly

    but i keep reading and people say it adds blur to the video

    I do not have the deblocking FILTER enabled, just the advanced h264 settings

  2. Yes it will be more "blurry" and the filesize will be smaller than if you used the same settings with lower or negative alpha/beta deblock values

    If your goal was improving "compressibility" , you would be better off using dedicated noise and grain processing filters . It will yield better results and more control

  3. Look at small details in dark areas. Those will suffer the most. And use a program where you can flip back and forth between the two videos while zoomed in.
