Ok I'm new to android phones but not android (got a tablet in the summer - its mips but its still android - 2.2).

I want a volume normalizer for the mp3s I'm playing with it. Even at the lowest volume tick its way too loud for headphones. These are store bought mp3s I'm testing with. I haven't checked my personally ripped collection yet. (just got it last weekend and just got a 32gb memory card from ebay for it).

This is basically going to replace my zune 30gb mp3 player. Its a lg optimus logic 35g. Got it at a great discount at cvs pharmacy (in the net 10 tracphone box). I have no intention of using it as a phone, just for music and games.

So basically I need to either:

    a) lower the system volume BELOW the lowest setting

    or

    b) lower the volume of any given mp3 or preferrably albums so they are at the same level.

This is android 2.3 fyi on the phone. I do have access to the google store on it so I can download anything.

I could consider buying a program if it wasn't more than 5 or 10 bucks (USD). So long as it worked.

I do like the phone so far and it sounds good through the headphones just way too loud. (they are earbuds - Phillips brand - bought separately).

I haven't started a google search yet for volume normalizing. That will be one of my little projects over the weekend.

    Thanks in advance.

By the way - do they have a vlc or mpchc for the android system? Would those have extra volume reduction options for playback?

Well I found an ok solution so far. I changed my search to volume equalizers. I found one and it does what I need it to. I lowered the overall volume in the app to 1 and then I lowered the six sliders to near zero. The sound is a bit flat to be sure but its not killing my ear drums using headphones which is what I want.

The reason I'm doing this is I have several GIGABYTES of mp3s I want to put on my player. I don't want to have to reencode them to lower volume levels before copying them over. I'm not even sure how to do that if you could.

Basically I just want to make the output lower on the player. At least this approach works. As a music purists I guess this lowers the tonal quality of the music. However I guess if you were a true purist you'd run screaming away from mp3 in the first place. For me I just want it so I can have a few thousand songs on this player and listen to them without killing my hearing using headphones.

So if there is a simpler approach that I am missing please let me know. Thanks.

Your problem is "hot mastering", and ultra optimized mastering for maximum horsepower. MP3Gain only changes the metadata, not the music itself.

This kind of thing is like "Compressed Blacks". Some dig it, like me, and others don't.
