  1. I've been using for a long time 'Media Player Classic' with k-lite codecs full.
I recently installed PotPlayer, and the picture I get with MPC/k-lite is much better (especially in flv files).

How do I set PotPlayer to use k-lite codecs?

I've read the folowing post. A detailed reply would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

  2. Try changing the video renderer. Preferences -> Video -> Video Renderer.

If you really think it's the internal codecs use Preferences -> Filter Control -> Source/Splitter and Video Decoder...

  3. Thanks for replying. I really appreciate it.

    I'm using an old computer.
I've tried different settings, and the playback quality didn't get better.
    I'll try some more.

  4. Check to see what filters are being used by MPC. While playing a video right click on the MPC window and hover over Filters. You can select any of the filters to get more details or check any optional parameters.

I see the icon of ffdshow in the system tray.
How should I apply it to PotPlayer?

I hope it's not much of a trouble. I appreciate your help.

  6. That shows MPC is using ffdshow to decode the video. I don't recognize the video renderer but I think it's VMR7. If you can see the same renderer in PotPlayer select it. Disable the Built in Xvid and Divx decoders (set them to System Default). If you enable ffdshow's tray icon it will put its icon in the tray whenever it is in use. That's a good way to know if it's being used. You probably have to close PotPlayer and restart it for any of those changes to take effect.

  7. Thank you so much! I'm really grateful.
I've managed to set PotPlayer to use ffdshow with avi files. (Icon in sys tray).
I still couldn't manage it with flv (which was my main problem).

I must leave now and, with your permission, I'll write again tomorrow.

You need to find out what codec is used in your FLV file, then disable that internal codec in PotPlayer. Or just disable all of them, forcing it to use system installed DirectShow codecs for all video decoding.

  9. Allow me to thank you again. I’ve read your last message a short while ago.

As you’ve suggested – I’ve set all Video Decoders to System default.
avi files: Both MPC and PotPlayer use ‘ffdshow Video Decoder’ with some files, and ‘WMVideo Decoder DMO’ with others. The playback quality seems to be the same.

mpg files: The playback quality is clearly better with MPC.

flv is more tricky: Clicking (MPC) Filters/ffdshow Video Decoder – the ‘Connection media type’ is sometimes ‘Video: MPEG4 Video (H264)’ (and then PotPlayer uses ffdshow), and sometimes ‘Video: Flash Video 1’ or ‘Video: FLV4’ (PotPlayer uses its internal Decoder, and the quality is not as good).

I’d be glad if you have the patience to devote some (more) thought to the matter.
