I have burned some BDMV discs from a video editing program. They are playing on my Samsung Blue Ray Player fine except for one
feature. I created chapters in my video that do not respond properly in my Samsung. They do however play properly using my Blue Ray
burner/player on my PC. What is happening is that when I view the BluRay on my Plasma TV connected to the Samsung, it will only display the first 3 of the available menus. The arrow keys for advancing to more chapters does not work and simply cycles around the first 3 chapters. It appears as if there is some incompatibility between my Samsung BD C5500 player. I would like to replace my Samsung with another player that can handle the chapters properly, but I don't know what criteria is needed to get them to work. My Samsung has been updated with models like the BD E6500, but I don't know if they handle the BDMV's any better. Any advice on this matter would be appreciated.

Blu-ray ripping section? Aren't you making a new blu-ray? Not ripping/backuping/copying anything.
And what is the video editing program?
It might work better with some other blu-ray authoring program. -
Baldrick,
You are correct. I should have posted this on the BluRay hardware forum. With your permission, I will repost it there. Thanks for your reply. -

I was able to find more information about these two Samsung Players at their web site. If they are to be believed, the 5500 model does not show BD as a supported format, whereas the newer 6500 dpes. That might explain why I am not seeing the chapters and reverse video working on my older 5500 model. I am puzzled why Samsung did not incorporate the BD format support in my 5500 model. I also see it missing from the specs of other models from Sony, etc. I thought the BD format has been around for some time, but could mistaken about that. Was the BD support not available when the Samsung model BD C5500 model came out, or was it a matter of economics to leave it out?
I am debating about whether to spend th 167 dollars to buy the Samsung BD E6500 Blue Ray Player, or try and get by without things like chapter support. I will certainly try to test the newer model at a store, if possible, to be sure it handles the features I need. I think I may have gotten caught up in the technology wave and now have to pay a penalty to catch up. -
movieguru, please do not post in other threads when you have this thread already going on that subject,i deleted your other thread.

This whole odessy is getting more bizare as i proceed to find a player to show my chapters. I took my burnt BluRay to ABT Electronics in Glenview Illinois and they played it on an LG BP620C player. The chapters worked there, so I assumed LG would work for me and this model. It did not work for me at home even after I upgraded to the latest software. Strangely, the LG in the store had an old version of the software. Did the newer versions kill my function? I have both Samsung and LG looking into this, but I believe this technology is too flakey to figure out. In the meantime, I am stuck with a problem that cannot be fixed.

What is your source file?
What is your video editing program?
What brand is the blu-ray blanks?
Hmm, it seems unlikely that 2 different blu-ray players would ignore chapter marks. -
My source file is edited home movies. They were run through a video editor of AVS04 out of England. I am using Verbatim BDR 6x.
It may seem unlikely, but it's happening to me. Why is the Chapters and Reverse video only affected? Why does it play fine on my PC? -
I tried googling AVS04, came up only with some multiple vga splitter.
Maybe somebody else is familiar with it.
I wouldn't rule out the video editor, is that payware?
It may not be producing compliant chapter marks, hardware players are sort of picky about such things. -
Sorry Steve, I gave you an incorrect name. The editor is from AVS4YOU software company. They have an extensive library of programs to edit Blue Ray and DVD's. I just used their Video Editor. Their service requires a nominal subscription fee. Again, I can see why chapters are any more susceptible to media or software problems. The video content is fine and the chapters work fine on my PC.

AVS4YOU progs are not in anyway considered the best IRT comparing them to freeware, trialware or payware.
I would about bet that software is not putting out full compliant blu-ray file.
One thing to think about though is software doesn't necessarily have to put out full compliant, just good enough to work(if one is pleased with results).
There are a couple of freeware authoring progs. you could try yet your source is home video so I don't know if they would work.
Multiavchd is one of them, be sure to use imgburn to burn discs, burn at 4X or 6X.
For menu-less, you could author with easybd lite and add chapter marks..... -
Steve,
Thanks for your replies and concern. Unfortunately, I am too far into this project to change to another service. It would be a monumental task to restart my editing installing all the titles and cuts, etc. Strangely, there are instances where my BluRays do play
properly. One is on my PC with the disc in my burner/player. The other was viewing a demo unit LG at a store as mentioned in my previous posting. After perusing the web, I discovered other people using a variety of players have had my kinds of problems going back several years. Seems like the chapter information is sometimes stored in a separate file and must be somehow incorporated into a ripped BluRay. My case is a bit different as I can see the first three chapters upon viewing. The chapter information should be on my burned BluRay disc, but it is not interfacing properly with the two players I have tried (Samsung and LG). I have both Samsung and LG technical support looking at this problem, but I am not hopeful they will find an answer. At least I can view the videos on a player, even if it is missing the ability to skip around and go in reverse.
