Does the original mkv file have H264 video in it? If so, look at this: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/MkvToMp4

Install MediaInfo and examine the file with it. Do a custom install of MediaInfo so you don't get any toolbars installed.

I find the Tree view within MediaInfo to be the most informative.

If it does have H264, it will probably show up as Format: AVC.
    (Advanced Video Codec)

    Try MKVtoMp4 on the file.

are there any specific instructions on how to do it cuz ive tried it twice and both times didnt work

all i did was, add the file and clicked start
everytime it was done, there was a huge x next to the subtitle

  8. What kind of subtitles? e.g SRT? SSA? ASS ?

MP4 container has limited subtitle support . It can hold SRT and TTXT subs . You could use yamb for example

If it's another format, then you might have to hardsub it (re-encode and burn in the subs instead of soft subs, where you can toggle them on/off)

ok, i found out a way to extract the subtitles from the mkv with mkvtoolnix and mkvextractgui

is there any way i can work things out from there

  11. Either convert to srt (you will lose any fancy formatting and fonts) , or hardsub it

on yamb, after i add the streams, it says cannot find mkvextract please provide a correct path in the settings

  15. put it (mkvextract.exe) in the mkvtoolnix directory

or go to the settings => advanced settings => extractors => specify directory for mkvextract

make sure you're using yamb 2.1.0.0 beta 2 , not the earlier version
