  1. I have some valuable movie clips on a DVD (40 of them) that i burned some weks ago. There appears to be some bad sectors on a certain location of the DVD - something i learned when i tried to make a copy of the DVD and got read error , Is there some way to be able to pin point which file is affected without playing them all?

Copy each file back to the hard drive and see which one doesn't copy.

Maybe. But I can only help you get part way there. That seems to be better than what you can do so far.

Install PgcEdit and follow the instructions here to make an ISO image:
    http://www.digital-digest.com/~blutach/pgcedit_guide/burning_with_pgcedit/burning_with...pgcedit_v2.htm

The ISO will fail to make and PgcEdit will tell you what sector numbers are bad. Now the tricky part is how to tell what those sector numbers are for. Maybe someone else knows how to do that. It may even be possible in PgcEdit to find that out, but I don't know how to do that. Good luck.

  5. Doing what Megahurtz said isn't any harder or slower than starting up some program to test the files. Just select all the files in Explorer and drag/drop them into a folder on you hard drive or Desktop. Windows will show you what files it's copying (you might have to press the "More Details" button) and when it hits the bad spot you'll see which file has the problem. Then you can just delete the folder when you're done.

Some of these programs might work for you:
