  1. My Canon Gl2 camcorder was dropped on the ground when the LCD screen was open. There was no visible damage done, however the LCD screen did seem slighty more flimsy at the hinge when playing around with it.

Is there any way to fix this? There are some screws at the hinge, and I wonder if I open them I may be able to view the problem?

You probably need smaller (and better-made) screwdrivers.
Some of the electronics from Japan can be hard to work with.

Been there, done that. Hated it.

  5. Best Buy had a screwdriver kit awhile back. I bought one to get the small philips head screwdriver to remove a hard drive from a laptop. Even then it was a bear to get the screws out. The drive screws had some kind of goop on them to keep them tight and not loosen.

Probably locktite on the screws. You can always try gripping the shaft of the screwdriver with pliers.

Best Buy usually doesn't have the right precision quality, nor the correct Japanese sizes.
Those "close enough" sizes are what bore holes into the screw head.

The pliers advice = spot on. I've had to do that myself.
    Good input, loster.

  12. It is the smallest sized slot screwdriver I could find at the store. I was quite certain it said size 0. I thought it would work in a phillips screw (4-pointed screw) but apparently it doesn't... will do some more searching tomorrow

You can buy 00 and 000 online.
If you're in a huge city (Chicago, Dallas, LA, Miami, etc), then some hobby shops may have what's needed.

There are also non-USA sizes used in Japan. You'll have a hell of a time finding a kit.
I got mine thanks to a friend in Japan sending one overseas.
I've had to use it to dismantle oddball gear from Sony and Nikon.

I hate to argue with you but JIS and Phillips are separate specifications not separate sizes.

There is supposed to be a indication if the drive is JIS but I have only seen it on large sizes.
Also Philips size 0 is way too large for electronics.
You could try this set it has worked well for me.

  15. That Homedepot screwdriver set looks exactly like the one I bought at Best Buy. Only different name on mine, (Skil brand).

The smallest slot size shows 2.0mm and smallest Phillips also 2.0mm. No numberd sizes like size 0. I don't know what the equivalent 2.0mm numbered size is.

Edit: I found it: 2.0mm equals 00 size.

Different "shapes" probably would have been a better word.

You can try flatheads, but you'll have a hell of a time with adequate torque.
