    Hey guys,

We are making a video with a completely white background. We are using a white board they sell at Home Depot as background. The idea is to later edit the video and put some stuff in the back like our logo. My question to you is what to use for lighting to shoot the video? We want to avoid shades cast to the white board in the back.

    Thank you.

can't say i've ever heard of anyone trying to chromakey using a white background. you'll even lose things like people's eyes. normal bright green is used for a reason, but if you must, use a set of lights directed directly at the screen to prevent shadows and maintain a consistent color.

I do not think the op wanted to use the white for chromakey, just as an "infinite background" and one that was plain where you could composite CG on top.

Most light kits will work, but you need distance to keep the shadow spill off the background, and you need a much larger background if it's in the distance. Plus you will need enough extra overhead down/fill lights to evenly light the background separate from the standard 3point lighting of the foreground. A true light meter is invaluable here.

Indeed, my plan was to just have a plain background. But from my quick research, it looks like there is not much you can do with a background like that. I mean besides sticking a logo in the corner, I don't think there is much more. And I would like to make it look like this http://smashitsocial.com/reviewengineroi/index0.php (scroll to the middle of the page). Are these guys chromakeying?

chromakeying is what they use on the tv news every night for the weather. the talking head stands in front of a blank green screen and waves at the blank board, the weather map is added behind them.

Yes, and not very well. You can see the green edge on his shoulder.
