  1. Hi there,

so i'm extracting .ass files from .mkv files.
Most of those work just fine, but sometimes I come accross .ass files that are "broken", if I open them theres no clear structure or readable text just random symbols all over and avisynth TextSub won't read them

If i try to open these broken files in AegiSub it just asks me to choose an encoding out of the ones it detected (usually ~10 ish) but none of them actually make any subtitles pop up in AegiSub
Yet when I play the MKV file it shows subtitles just fine so I'm confused why this is happening.

Are you sure the programs you're using to extract the subtitle streams from MKVs are completely up-to-date?

If you're using mkvtoolnix, make sure it's the latest version, and try the latest version of MKVExtractGUI-2.
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

  3. Ya just DLed the latest just to test it again ^^ but still all garbled and unreadable :/

Also MKVExtractGUI2 only seems to show the Video stream, the subtitles and the fonts (+ chapters) but no audio? Even though the .mkv has audio

Do all the streams show up properly if you load the MKV in MediaInfo?

You might give MKVCleaver a try. Some have said it works when MKVExtractGUI/-2 doesn't; I can't comment on that, since I haven't had any problems with MKVExtractGUI/-2, save for the clashing with mkvtoolnix a while back, and the need to switch from the no-longer-updated MKVExtractGUI to the -2 version.
