I have a Samsung HMX-S10 camcorder. When I connect it to my HDTV (Philips 32PFL5604H/12) though an HDMI cable and start playing the recorded videos, the first video plays fine, but when the camcorder switches to the second video in the row, no sound can be heard. And very often when I start the playback of videos again, no sound can be heard at all any more, or sometimes the sound freezes, and a distorted, continuous sound can be heard. This distorted sound remains then even if I switch to TV channels until I switch the TV off and switch it on again.

It happens when I use my gold plated HDMI cable for this purpose, but interestingly when I use the HDMI cable that was supplied with the camcorder, the connection doesn't even come about between the TV and the camcorder, the TV reports that the "Incoming signal is unknown". I don't know why the connection behaves with the 2 cables differently.

I visited my friend who has a Samsung UE40EH6030 HDTV, connected the camcorder to it with the HDMI cable that was supplied with the camcorder, and there was no problem at all. The playback was smooth, etc, all videos were played.

Why doesn't the playback work on my TV? Do you have an idea? I had 8 Full HD camcorders in the past year, I have 4 recently, with all the others this problem didn't occur. Only with this Samsung HMX-S10.

  2. See if there's a firmware update for your TV.

Hopefully that will be the solution. I have checked the firmware updates, the most recent update is right about to give solution for this specific problem I mentioned, that is: no sound through HDMI from external devices.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Unfortunately the firmware update didn't solve the problem. When I played the videos for the first time after the update, the TV gave sound, but after 4 videos the situation returned to the state it was in before the update. 1 video okay, others have no sound. I have wrote to Phillips however about this problem. Several of their firmware updates are about the problem that no sound comes when a device is connected through HDMI.
