I want to connect another subwoofer to my system. I read I need a Y-splitter to plug into the subwoofer output of the receiver then connect the two subwoofers into the female ends. I already have the Y splitter and the RCA cable which I bought for maybe $2 a piece at the flea market. But then I came across "subwoofer" cables on the internet costing from $9 to more than $100. Am I safe and will not fry any of my audio equipment if I use my el cheapo cables(which I already have) instead of buying those so-called "subwoofer" cables? Thanks.

Fry your gear by not using a "dedicated" sub cable? No way.

"High end" audio cables are the biggest ripoff I know of in the electronics industry. The impedance of a line level cable is so small compared to what it's plugged into it can't matter. There certainly isn't any difference as far as bass vs. everything else.

Decent quality connectors with gold plating are worth paying extra for but beyond that, no.

Audio salespeople hate me for this, because they make a lot of markup on those stupid cable, and because I can explain to them exactly why they're nonsense.

Just dont buy the RCA cables at a 99 cent store ... they're cheap ... only cost a few dollars at ... Target ... Walmart ... I needed to buy some ... I'd try Target ... they had a decent amount of choices to choose from ... reasonable price
