  1. Hi guys,
    I need help!
I'm a musician and I filmed a student of mine playing to a song in the background. I was using a Canon Power Shot S3is. I was using 320/60 video parameters. Now I'm trying to add the original song to back up the audio of the video, but it doesn't match. Both audios are in 44.1 Hrz.
I'm using Premiere to edit the video and Logic to edit audio. I have a mac.
I've tried changing the audio to 48 Hrz and it didn't help.
Do I need to change the video setting? how do I do that?
    Thanks in advance!!

  2. What do you mean by "doesn't match"?

daganasaf - Answer jagabo's question. Also you said "I have a mac." ALL questions related to Macs need to go in our Mac forum. Most of us use Windows and cannot help you by providing suggestions to use Windows programs. I will ask a moderator to move this thread.

By the way, changing the sampling rate from 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz will not change the length of the audio, thus it cannot fix a synchronization problem by only doing that.

@jman98, a SRC (sample rate conversion) of 44.1 to 48 won't change the length, but a re-interpretation of the existing samples (header change) WILL change the length.

My guess is that it isn't as extreme a difference between 44.1 and 48 kHz, but more likely that it is using Non-drop pulldown, so that it's running NOT at true 44.1kHz but at 44.056 (the difference between 30fps and 29.97). I notice that the OP used 320/60 as a setting, which I'm guessing is 320x240 @ 60 fields/sec? and the 60 is a true 60 instead of the more correct 59.94?
If that's all true, then there needs to be a "pull-up".

This kind of thing is normally only useful when going double-system FILM -> VIDEO, but if my guess is correct then this would be a similar type case.

To help us out, daganasaf, please submit a text output from MediaInfo on both your audio and your video files (PRE-EDITED, please).

  7. What kind of sync issues ?

Obviously the durations are different (4min 18sec vs. 4min 5sec), perhaps because you starting recording at different times .

Did you try lining up the audio waveforms? Or is there a drift issue ?

  8. jagabo- when I said "doesn't match", I meant it starts together after I sync it, and then it drifts apart. By the end of the 4 mintues, the video and audio is off by about 3-4 seconds..

BTW, in the title I meant the video is in 59.94 frame rate

    Thanks!

  9. You'll have to adjust the length of the audio or video to get them to match. It's usually better to adjust the audio. Most advanced audio editors have the ability to adjust the length while keeping the pitch (or not). Audacity is free and there is a Mac version. You can use Effect -> Change Speed (pitch changes), or Effect -> Change Tempo (pitch doesn't change). You're looking at about a 1.25 to 1.7 percent change (3 or 4 seconds out of 240 seconds)

My guess is your Premiere template is wrong (true 60 instead of the correct 59.94), but somehow Premiere is accepting your 59.94 AS IF it were 60. This would make it PULL UP.

What jagabo is suggesting will in effect do the same thing I was suggesting, so you should do that.
