Hey, has anybody tried this kind of stuff? And have any tips or cool examples?

I'm thinking this is useful to spice up stills and slideshows. This baby photography seems to be popular. I did a couple freebies for experience, and some paid gigs came out of it. I want to do something with WOW though, instead of the usual.

You need to do a better job isolating elements instead of a rough mask. For example the mother's hair comes apart. Or deliberately choose photos that are easier to separate layers (even by other methods like color key instead of roto)

Some ideas - you can incoporate transitions into other photos, 3d space

Someone posted this as an example in some other thread (ignore the cheesy beginning countdown)

Hey thanks for that, it's awesome. Is everybody doing that now? Am I the odd man out? Clueless? Missed the train?

    Any money in it?

I guess that depends, eh? You Chinooks like "EH", yeah?

No , not everyone is doing it.

It was just to illustrate the use of transitions , z-space, depth of field - some techniques you might be able to use to "spice" up a typical photo montage

There was obviously some effort put into it - It's well planned, everything fits together and there is a cohesive unifying theme and it tells a story (it's not just a bunch of random photos)

There is only money in it if someone is willing to pay you for it. That's how any market works .

For example, clients of a baby photographer would expect still photos. From 1 session. What kind of "story" can you tell with that? How would animating a photo montage from 1 shoot be beneficial? Will clients pay extra for something like this animated montage on a blu-ray or DVD, or video file? Not likely (at least in most areas) , and even if they would, the effort put in to make it look good probably won't coincide with what they are willing to pay you. But maybe you can use something like this to differentiate yourself from competitors. You have to decide if it's worth it to you

And you should edit the title, it's not "stop motion". That refers to something entirely different

Sorry I called you a "Chinook".

Yeah, it would have to be automated, of course, like Henry Ford taught us about mass production, right? And the Chinese perfected, using actually, the "masses". Not laser robots.

Myself, I would never waste money on something like this because I don't have a lot of family to pass it around, and I'm not social, really.

I've always considered "entertaining others" to be a complete bore. That's why I don't post much. And when I do, I like to keep it strictly ON-topic.

Most don't "get" my brand of humor anyway.

Let me look up stop motion, and what did you say it was? Aye?

That clip reminded me of the Nexus version of “Window In The Skies” (by U2) video clip, which used similar techniques.
I wanted to add a video link, but it looks like the record company has all traces of it removed from the net... What a shame. Glad I copied it in time.

There is no official name for this technique. It's just compositing 2d layers in 3d space. The motion is mostly done with a fly by camera animation, the layers themselves are usually not animated . It's really bread and butter after effects stuff

"Stop motion" is something else entirely . It's like claymation, where you take stills between intervals

Well, for those of us that use HitFilm Ultimate as a replacement for AE, it also has flying 3D camera capability, that's an old hat, no brainer deal. And for several hundred less, too.

But anyway, what was I sayin?

Hahaha, those long haired dirty people next door are burning their catshit again. I smell it strong this time..hehehe...

  12. There you go . Hit Film should be able to do it too (for a lot less)

Blender should be able too (even less than Hit Film!)

So show us your next montage!
