Okay, here's one I've _never_ seen on this or any other forum:
I have three .mpg files that were apparently encoded for SVCD (MPEG2 video @ 480x480, MPEG level 2 audio @44KHz).
Rather than burning three SVCDs, would it be possible to convert these to DVD-compliant video/audio and burn them to a DVD-R?
Things you should know...
...about me:
I am familiar with many aspects of video capture, encoding, and mastering/burning related to DVD production. I have created dozens of reasonably complex DVD-R projects using Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, and occasionally Cleaner 5. However, I know absolutely nothing about VCD/SVCD other than what I've read in this and a few other forums (Doom9, etc.) in the past couple of days.
...about what _didn't_ work:
Always try the easiest solution first, right? So I demultiplexed one of the .mpg files into separate audio and video streams and tried to dump them directly into DVD Studio Pro. Predictably, this didn't work. It hated the video because it was only 480 pixels wide (rather than 720) and it hated the audio because it was only 44KHz (rather than 48KHz).
This is rather frustrating because my understanding is that SVCD uses the same MPEG2 encoding as DVD, just at a different resolution. If I need to use Cleaner to reencode all three files at 720x480 and 48KHz (about two days' work, mind you), does anyone have settings suggestions that will result in the best possible MPEG2-to-MPEG2 conversion?
Thanks,
MacTroy
