The GY-HM70 records at a maximum of 1080/60p 28mbps. Better than any shoulder mount camcorder below US$2000, but not as fast as the Canon HF G30 (1080/60p 35mbps), the JVC GC-PX100 (1080/60p 36mbps) or my Panasonic GH3 (1080/60p 50mbps).

the GH3 is a great camera in that it stepped up its shooting modes considerably from the GH2, offering 1080/50p (pal) and 1080/60p (ntsc) AVCHD @ 28Mbps and then upping the anti to shoot in IPB mode @ 50Mbps + ALL-Intra @ 72Mbps
Motion Image (MOV PAL)
1920×1080/50p @ 50Mbps IPB
1920×1080/25p @ 72Mbps ALL-Intra
1920×1080/25p @ 50Mbps IPB
1920×1080/24p @ 72Mbps ALL-Intra
1920×1080/24p @ 50Mbps IPB
1280x720/50p @ 72Mbps ALL-Intra
the difference between 28Mbps and 36Mbps is not that great in the overall scheme of things, but 50Mbps & 72Mbps out of the box without a hack is pretty decent, that is if you prefer using a DSLR type camera to shoot video with, which i dont, but my son has a GH2 for his film and television course at uni which he has hacked to get its 1080/24p cinema mode AVCHD @ to a whopping 150Mbps.
canon G30 shoots 1080/60p @ 35Mbps in MP4 container and 28Mbps in AVCHD, not sure why they do this to be honest, maybe you can shed some light on this for me, and its nice to see that it offers 1080/24p (cinema) mode, not all cams do this. -
I wish my budget was more also, but when you are dealing with a school system I think I am lucky to get that much I guess. What does the Z10000 give me that the AC90 does not? By the way, thanks for all the advice guys.

Is the AC90 going to be an upgrade in camera over the HDR-FX7?
-
of course it will be, the FX7 is an old HDV format camera, shooting onto mini tape in 1080i and using MPEG2 compression, plus it requires firewire to transfer the video from the tape, which can only be achieved over real time.
i dont know what mode you would shoot in using a camera like the AG90 (1080/60P or whatever) but its got to be better than what the FX7 shoots in.
probably not much difference, but for over $2000 here in australia, the 1/4.7-inch sensor size is of concern to me with a camera like the AC90, and is another reason why my next upgrade most likely will be a 35mm full frame camera with interchangeable lenses, along the lines of the NEX VG900.Last edited by glenpinn; 1st Aug 2013 at 03:19.
