  1. I have used VLC for years because of its flexibility - will play almost anything regardless of zones, etc. But the computer in my classroom has a Chinese OS - XP and VLC will only install in Chinese. Their forum uses the Walter Cronkite response, "well, that's the way it is"... is there a program (hopefully free) that is equally as flexible as VLC that allows me to control the language that I will use with it? I just need English - don't need to change midstream.

    Hi
    SMPlayer is OK.

    "Package with installer: smplayer-0.8.0-webdl.exe (9.32 MB)"
    From here ---> http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/

    Can choose language during install.
    Also use option "MPlayer Components > Binary Codecs".

    That is so stupid. I have no idea if it will be better, but the portable version of VLC might at least ask you what language you want.
