I have an older ADVC50 from Canopus. I am capturing from a Sony HDR-FX7 with mini DV. I use firewire to capture. Do you think the Canopus would still be fine or would it be better to just capture directly from the motherboard firewire port?

The ADVC50's firewire port is just a pass-through provided for the sake of convenience. Since there is no processing, capture using the ADVC50's firewire port offers no advantages or disadvantages over using a direct connection to the motherboard's firewire port. Either will give you a bit-for-bit digital copy of the recording.

That's what I thought but someone was trying to tell me otherwise. Thanks.
