    LMAO!!!
Apple, MS, google all have different strategies to pull our legs.

I remembered the day I bought vista machine (just next day vista released) and how long it took Security software (which is sold by the store along with that PC) to run on Vista..... and all the troubles until 1/2 service packs. Thanks to HP for making such a great laptops which dies just after an year, otherwise I might have bought windows 7 for that laptop.

I think windows 8 is not that bad, but who knows.

So now I am preparing myself to buy a windows 7 laptop and get windows 8 for $20 . if it turns out good..... fine.....otherwise wait for 9 or 10.

Just upgraded to Windows 8 pro for $40. It the beginning I was struggling and I even considered going back to Windows 7 until I found Classic Shell. This little tool allowed my machine to be useful again.

All software that I use runs properly. After the upgrade, besides the missing and annoying missing start button, I just had to reinstall Video and Audio Drivers and I was happy again.

I also had to reconfigure the support of disk encryption to be able to mount my removable hard disks. It took me less than 5 minutes to find the solution. This upgrade was way faster than previous ones, so I知 happy with the results.

come on.. speed-wise, how long does it take for w8 to boot up ? if someone says longer, (than xp/7) i'll faint!!

i mean, why the heck would i want a giant tablet desktop, that takes for ever to boot up into the giant tablet look, when i can do the same thing in ipod touch/pad within 1 second. and lets not forget, apple just released their latest toy, the ipad mini. i'll just bet you all that it too only takes a 1 second to boot up. no installing an os and all that nonsense. just flick the switch and its instantly on. m$ can never, let me repeat, N*E*V*E*R, accomplish this in a de$ktop pc. i think the ipad mini will be the sweet spot between ipod touch and ipad. i may even pick one up if the price comes down a bit. i'm waiting for someone to post a review on it, here.

  4. Win8 boots faster than Win7. Mostly because shutting down doesn't fully shut down. It's more like hibernate.

I've been working with Win 8 for a while now. I stay in the desktop 90% of the time at least, and since I'm using Classic Shell I find it very hard to tell the difference from Win 7. The hotcorners are turned off, it boots to the desktop (faster than Win 7), and I have a very similar control system to that seen in Win 7 while using the Aero skin for Classic Shell.

And I can get into the new UI very quickly if for some reason I need one of the apps that only runs there. So far, I haven't found anything at the Windows Store I can't live without. The Weather app is the only one I use regularly.

This is not to say the system is without annoyances. You have to set preferences for your desktop programs when playing videos or viewing photos, else you get kicked straight into the new interface apps. And getting some of my media players to work properly has been some work. Media Player Classic HomeCinema has been a royal pain in the ass in Win 8. VLC just seems to work.

I have to know the system, at least to some extent, in order to be able to provide support.

I've been exploring the new GUI in my spare time. Some parts of it aren't all that bad. I've unpinned virtually everything from the Start screen, but it is easy to bring everything up. The organization of the installed programs is actually easier to navigate than the traditional start menu system.

Same here. I'll be getting one upgrade. But the rest of the computers in the house will still be running XP, 7 and linux.

FreePascal, C/C++ (Visual Studio 2010) and Clojoure work just as before. I have not even attempted to do something using the new interface though.
