  1. I'm trying to play some Quicktimes with DTS audio using QT Pro for Windows, and I'm getting no audio. Is there a codec or a Windows equivalent of Perian I can download?

Before anyone asks, I'm using QT Pro rather than a different player because I need to export sections of these movies and QT Pro offers the best export tools that I'm aware of. If anyone can suggest an alternative Windows app that will offer the same export flexibility and also cope with DTS audio, then I'd be very interested to hear about it.

It needs to have a basic timeline like QT Pro from which I can set In and Out points for defining the section to be exported, and preferably also the ability to enable/disable the individual audio tracks, so if I want to export with just the centre channel enabled, I can. Thanks!

No. There is NO QT codec for DTS - anywhere. Mac or PC. Try ffmpeg, ffdshow, and other Combinations of tools to do what you want in stages.

FWIW, you can play DTS in QT for Mac if you have Perian installed. I'm playing a QT movie with DTS audio right now, as it happens.

I was trying to help out a colleague who only had access to a Windows machine, but since there appears to be no Windows equivalent to Perian and no native Windows apps that will play QTs with DTS audio *and* replicate the export flexibility of QT Pro, he's been able to wangle use of a Mac. Having to transcode before exporting would have got old very quickly, so he can do what he needs to do in a single step now.

I believe that's only because Perian has calls to ffmpeg (which has a lib that supports DTS). No, there is no Windows-equivalent to Perian for QT.

Most Windows users bypass QT altogether when playing media and use either DirectShow-based apps, or use self-contained apps that have their own libraries (like VLC).

However, you are incorrect: using ffmpeg (and other apps) one can easily rewrap QT to other types which are both DTS-playable and flexible in exporting.
And your college (edit: sorry should read colleague) is STILL not doing it in a single step, as he/she has to get the file to the Mac & back, eh?

Because of Apple's attitude towards PC's, there never HAS been, never still IS (and probably never WILL be) parity between what QT is capable of on a Mac and what it's capable of on a PC. No ProRes 4:4:4, No AIC, etc.

The files are all on an external drive so all he had to do was plug it in to the Mac
